So, I found some good cave Story mods. 
 
Try them out to your fancy.

King: Strife and Sacrifice AKA kings story              A+
 
WTF story  (horrible name, great game)                A 

The Mimiga Army (follows the "coward" ending)   A 

Boss Rush   (exactly what is says on the tin)        A

Corridor  (super difficult)                                            B+

Jenka's Nightmare Revived                                       B+
(original was abandoned) 

 Cave Story redesign                                                  B+
