One fine day in the fictional region of Kanto, in the early 1970's, a ten-year-old Filipino girl named Maggie started her Pokemon journey. She tried to go out into the tall grass to the north of Pallet Town, her new home (young Maggie moved to the Kanto region from the Philippines when she was seven), but Professor Oak, the "Pokemon Professor," called her to his Lab to pick her starter Pokemon. Young Maggie had to choose from Bulbasaur, Squirtle, or Charmander, so, since she desired to have Bulbasaur, Maggie chose the plant Pokemon (which was at level 5). Suddenly, when she tried to leave the Lab, Maggie's Rival, Geki, challenged her to a Pokemon battle. "How surprising!" thought Maggie in shock, "I only became a Pokemon Trainer!"
