I might seem incredibly annoying for saying this, but if you like Megaman, then you will probably like the older Castlevania games (I-V) as they offer a similar kind of challenge.

There are a few that you have to avoid because they are not all good games. Those are Casltevania Adventure, Legends, 64, and Dracula X. They are all lacking games and are only worth playing if you have played many other Castlevania games.

 I would suggest any of the Pokémon's that you are able to play, and when you complete them give yourself little challenges that you could try and do?

For example: complete game then try to get every Pokémon you have to level 100
Or try and catch as many Pokémon as you can be bothered to catch.

Sega Genesis. Mega Man the wily wars, All of the Genesis Sonic games are awesome but Sonic the Hedgehog 2 would be the one I would suggest, Pirates of the Dark Water, Ristar, and Michael Jacksons Moonwalker
