Try Cave Story.  It may not be on this site, but it's free at cavestory.org.  It's a fantastic platformer that took 1 guy about 5 years to make.  The music and the unique mechanic make this very noteworthy.

One of my favorite games on this site would have to be Mario Tennis: Power Tour for the GBA if this is still open. It's, as you can tell, a tennis game. It has a story line to it, and the graphics are pretty nice. It's really fun to play when you really get all of the controls down.
