well, i honestly don't see the big controversy in this at all. How many times do kids learn about the mass slaying of wars in school? They teach that a lot in history classes but this suddenly becomes a huge deal when it is worded differently. The world is full of people who are racist so even if jewish kids had to do this assignment it would be good for them to understand in depth why people out there hate them by doing a paper on why they are hated. I know that may sound cruel but it's the truth.

What kind of teacher would assign this? That teacher is supposed to make the assignment the opposite which is to make an essay convincing that Jews are not a source of evil.

Wow. Are you kidding. If a teacher seriously did this... My word. That teacher should seriously be fired. That could have offended so many people, and I'm sure it did. That shouldn't be tolerated, especially in common society today. I'm not Jewish, but this is offending. I realize he was trying to assign a paper with a topic, but, really. Imagine a Jewish student was sitting there, and he brings home a homework assignment to his parents that ask them to write why their kind is evil. Honestly, people.

while i would love to chime in with advice that could convince you of exactly what you want, i cannot do so. the fact that any school system is teaching this trash to our children is appalling. i despise the fact that ALL children learn about in school is math, and how we murdered, raped, and enslaved each other for the past 5000 years. like they just want to keep it fresh in our minds, so we subconsciously grow a similar hatred and bloodlust.

What is the problem? He did what he was assigned. If he said the same thing but from a Jewish point of view, it would not have been a problem. I do not see this as a problem.

Well, It's hard to know exactly how it played out in the class room, but it does seem pretty odd.

It may have just been a teacher who was trying to teach the effects of propaganda on a society, the teacher may be stupid, but I don't think he/she would be stupid enough to order an assignment to try to radicalize students against Jews or anything like that(though crazier things have happened). He/she went about it the wrong way regardless.

I do however think it's important to bring home the reality of propaganda. Under the right circumstances, any society can become radicalized against one group or another, and it's important to understand how to avoid these circumstances, and notice the signs of pre-fascism or pre-stalinism so it can be prevented. I think it can be done without forcing children to take the role of a Nazi though.

I really can't get a reason for that, the teacher must either be 1. a closet nazi or 2. The teacher somehow thinks you know what it is like to be a nazi.

I just think this is really sad on how some people say that the Jews are evil, to my mind, the Jews are like everyone of us, yeah, they might have different religion believes than Christians has, but you shouldn't put on what they believe in more than on what they're actions are, they're is a saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" because they all aren't bad at all.

For what you mentioned, I don't think this assignment should be assigned for the students to do, because it was making fun of the Jewish people and that isn't right, If I was that teacher, I wouldn't give those students that assignment, but since it's high school students, it should be up to the students if they want to do that or not.
