I have been whipping up a few quick drafts for stories, or series of stories I would like to write, and I got what I think to be a good one. I would love to see feedback, and whether you think I should write a whole series, what is wrong with it, etc. It is a zombie story, so it has gore and some language too. Let the story begin! (I edited this part to make it a bit easier to read. The next part will use my new, better layout.)

      Episode 1: The Great Unknown
It was a warm, cloudless July day in Poughkeepsie, New York. The sun was out, the birds were singing, and the mosquitoes were buzzing. Seven friends just out of college, John, Ana, Mike, Tanner, Christi, Leo, and Zoey were having a barbecue at Mike's house. The smell of ribs and burgers wafted through the humid air, flies taking a quick, tantalizing look at the delicious food cooking out on the grill. Mike was flipping burgers, and tending to the ribs. Tanner was hitting on Zoey, as always, even though he knew she was out of his league. John and Leo were talking with Christi, while Ana was watching Mike flip burgers. She was Mike's boyfriend at the time.

"So, whatcha got cooking there Mike?" She asked.

"You know what I am cooking. Burgers made from real human flesh," he said jokingly. Ana laughed awkwardly loud at Mike's joke.

"You're so funny Mike. You know that, right?" she questioned.

"I might be funny, but you look beautiful," he said. Mike kissed Ana's forehead lightly, and she giggled softly. Mike called out to everyone else, "Burgers are done! Come and get 'em!". Everyone rushed over to the grill with a plate in hand, except for Christi. She was a vegetarian, and had brought her own Salad and PB&J sandwich. Everyone thought the burgers were amazing, every bite like a slice of heaven. Mike had a knack for cooking. But what they were really waiting for were the ribs.

Ana walked over to the fence in the back of Mike's yard to get a better view of his house. She couldn't believe he had gotten such a big house for so little. Her long, brown hair fell over on the other side of the fence. She felt a tug on the end of it. She quickly turned around and screamed, as her eyes peered on a horrifying sight. There was a man on the other side of the fence, pulling her hair down, trying to grab hold of her. What was more terrifying was his face. His eyes were bloodshot, and she could see his veins. His skin was a ghastly white, almost transparent, and his jaw was sunk in. He had half of his left cheek ripped out, showing his open mouth, and it was still oozing blood.

She screamed an ear-piercing scream. Mike stopped cooking the ribs and ran over to Ana. The man was trying to pull her over the fence.
"Dude, what the hell are you doing? GET OFF OF HER!!!" Mike screamed. The man kept on trying to pull her over, so Ana punched him in the face. He grabbed her arm, and ripped a small, fleshy chunk out. She started oozing blood, and was screaming too.

"GET OFF OF ME YOU CRAZY FREAK! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!" she exclaimed. Mike ran, and jumped straight over the fence and tackled the guy. He soon stumbled back when he saw the mans face. He picked the man up, "Holy crap, are you OK? You guys, this guy need medical attention, now! He was trying to signal us or something. Someone grab my keys!" he yelled. Mike grabbed the man and brought him back over the fence. The man tried to bite Mike's arm. Mike pushed away his head. The man tried again. Mike said "Dude, we're getting help, OK?!?!". The man tried once more. Mike pushed away his head rather forcefully this time, and the mans head fell off. Mike started screaming like a girl, and ran back into his house.

"OH MY GOD I JUST KILLED SOMEONE THAT MAN IS DEAD!!! HE DIED!!!" Mike was screaming. Everyone was confused, but Tanner managed to pull out his phone and call 911. He relayed the details from Mike, who was still flipping out, to the operator, and told them they would be there in 5 minutes. Christi was driving, with Zoey in the passengers seat. Mike, Tanner, and Ana were right behind them in the back seat, while Leo and John were driving right behind them. Ana was unconscious, but still breathing. Blood was slowly oozing from her arm, even when Mike and Tanner tried to suppress it, it still kept bleeding. They could see the bone in her arm, and it looked really bad.

After a painstakingly long drive, they arrived at the hospital. Two men in a hospital gown put her on a stretcher and rolled her into the hospital. Now all they could do was sit and wait, and hope Ana would be OK. After an hour and a half wait, they finally got some news. A doctor walked up to them.

"Ana is in a stable condition. The bleeding has stopped, and we are planning to do an operation to fix her arm. We have to test her for infections first, before we can perform any kind of operation. She appears to be sick, but that might just be from loss of blood. You can see her, but don't freak out. Any stress could cause her to go into shock again. I wouldn't be surprised, after what happened to her. The poor thing," The doctor said. John, Mike, Leo, Christi, Zoey, and Tanner all walked over to the room they had Ana in, while nervously talking about what could be wrong with her.

They arrived at her room, and Ana looked surprisingly well. She looked a little sick, but she was almost back to her old self. They chatted with her about what happened, and how bad it hurt. They spent the whole day by her side, even when the doctor's came in to do blood tests on her. At around 2:00, doctors came in with the results.

The doctor started talking, "She appears to have no abnormalities in her blood. We will perform surgery in 2 days, but for now, she will stay in the hospital. If all goes according to plan, she will be out of the hospital in about a weeks time. Now Ana, I need you to fill out these forms here...". The man went on about filling out forms, and health insurance, and other boring stuff. Mike walked up to Ana.

"I hope you feel better in the morning," he said quietly, "I have to go to the police station. Tell them what happened. I love you,". He gave her a light kiss, and walked out of the hospital. He was escorted to the police station, who had been at the scene for a few hours now. The other 5 decided to stay with Ana until they had to go home. They wanted to keep her occupied, and just talk with her.

Mike arrived at the police station. He went in to a small, white interrogation room. It has 2 chairs, 4 or 5 cameras, and a table. A police officer was sitting in the chair at the opposite end of the table. He welcomed Mike in, and told him to have a seat.

"I know what this looks like," Mike said, "but I am telling you, I didn't kill that man on pur-,"

"Mike, I don't want to hear you beg and plead. I want to hear your side of the story, and what you did. The court is going to decide you guilty or not." the police officer said calmly. Mike told the officer the whole story. With Ana being bit by this man, and him going to punch him, when he realized the guy need to go to the hospital, and how he kept trying to bite Mike, and how he ended up pushing off his head. The police officer started laughing.

"Yeah, you just pushed a guys head, and boom, his face fell off! You expect me to believe this man just showed up with half his cheek ripped out, and you tried to help him by picking him up, and you "accidentally" pushed his head off? I hope you like it in jail, because that's where you are go-," the man was cut off by a loud smashing outside. He heard gunfire, and screaming. The man rushed out of the room, and told Mike to stay put. He heard more gunfire, and after 5 minutes, he decided to peek out of the room to see what was going on.

Mike saw a man on the ground screaming, with a huge gash on his leg. He saw another man, hopefully unconscious, with his stomach ripped open. His large intestine was lying on the floor next to him. He then saw something horrifying. There was a third man who looked a lot like the man who had attacked Ana, dead on the ground with 3 bullets through his head. Then he saw the police officer run into the room with medical supplies. Mike screamed, "IT LOOKED LIKE THAT. THAT'S WHAT ATTACKED ANA!!! OH GOD, WHAT IS THAT THING!?!". He ran back to the wall, and collapsed.

Mike woke up in a hospital bed. There was a clock in the room. It was 6:33. Leo and Christi were in the room with Mike.

"Thank god, you're awake," said Christi

"Why am I in a hospital. I was at the police station, and I blacked out, and I don't know why. Is Ana OK? Am I OK? What hap-," Mike was cut off by Leo

"Dude, Ana is really sick. She deteriorated fast. The doctors didn't detect any infections in her blood. She had a seizure an hour ago, and now they have her on a huge dose of anti-biotics. I don't know what happened to you though. The doctor should." Leo explained.

"Ana had a seizure," Mike began, realizing what Leo just said, "No no no, that can't be, she was just fine before. Oh no, I have to go see her,". Mike ran from the room. He looked at the room numbers. 234, 235, 236! Ana's room. He pushed open the door, and found no one there. He started to freak out. He ran down the stairs, back down to the lobby. Leo and Christi quickly ran back.

"Mike no! You have to stay in your bed! You could have a concussion or something! Get back to-," Christi was cut off by Mike.

"I DON'T GIVE A DAMN! MY GIRLFRIEND IS DYING! I NEED TO SEE HER!! WHERE IS ANA JOHNSTONE?!?!" He yelled towards the nurse.

"She's in the ICU Mike. They won't let you in unless you are immediate family." said Leo.

"I. DONT. CARE." Mike said. He ran down a hallway, following the signs towards the ICU. There was a glass door with 2 guards standing in front.

One guard said, "No one is allowed in here unless they are immediate family and have an appointment. No one else has an appointment for the day."

"My girlfriend is in there. She is DYING. LET ME IN!!!!" Mike exclaimed. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get passed the guards. He collapsed again into a sobbing heap. One guard escorted him back to his room, and Mike fell asleep. He woke up to a doctor in his room.

"You look like you are feeling better. You blacked out at the police station. The guys there were attacked by some crazy guy. They are testing him for drugs, but he is dead now." the doctor said. Mike suddenly remembered what had happened back at the police station.

"Oh no. No that isn't good. That guy looked like the guy who attacked Ana. It couldn't have been the same guy, but... Oh my god. What is happening in this town? Those things are monsters, it is like... an infection" Mike said somberly

"What are you talking about? There is no infections, and those are normal people, they aren't monsters. I think you should stay another night, just to be safe. I think you might have suffered a concussion..." The doctor said. Just then, the door swung open. It was one of the guards from the ICU. They looked worried.

"Doc, we have a problem. Patient Ana Johnston passed away 3 hour-" a guard began to say

"NO! WHY DID YOU LET HER DIE?!?!" Mike exclaimed, "SHE WAS FINE! YOU KILLED HER! I HATE YOU!!!" Mike screamed. One of the guards told Mike to shut up. He protested, but the guard just brought the doctor out of the room. Mike couldn't hear them well, but he heard some of the conversation.

"It happened again...more are infected...it is spreading...quarentines...to keep this quiet..." is all Mike heard from the doctor. It wasn't much, but it was enough. He knew there was an infection, and that it came from those monsters. They bit, and spread the infection. It was like something out of a horror movie. Yet he couldn't do anything. People kept assuming he was insane. All he could do was wait.

And wait he did. Leo, John, and Zoey showed up, Tanner and Christi both had work. They kept Mike company, and made sure he didn't flip out like he had before. He kept trying to tell them about what he had realized, but they assumed it was him still mourning for Ana's death, and the possibility that he might have sustained a head injury. They couldn't talk about Ana's death to him though, the doctor said it could induce more trauma.

It was around 3:00. Mike, Leo, John, and Zoey were watching TV. They had pretty much talked about everything they could, and the hospital was quite boring, but they wanted to keep their friend company. The doctor came in to the room shortly.

"I would like to perform some tests on you. They will be quick, but they will require your cooperation. Do you understand?" the doctor asked.

"Alright. Let's just run these tests quickly. I want to go home," Mike said. He did want to go home, and find out more about these things that were starting to invade town. He was itching to know why no one was worried about this, and why so many people didn't even care that a man bit a girl, and then she died and came back to life! Or the fact that a man found dead at a police station with 3 bullets in his head presumably attacked 2 police offices, ripping open one of their stomachs? He didn't understand.

He ran through the tests quickly. The doctor determined that he was OK, and that he didn't have a head injury, and would be released. Mike had Zoey drive him home, just in case. There was police tape in his backyard. The guy was gone, but the blood was still there. The four of them walked into his house. Zoey gave him a crumpled up piece of paper, and walked away. She drove from the house, waving him goodbye. He unwrapped the crumpled note. It said something disturbing.

Your house, car, and the hospital are all bugged. Police want to keep this under wraps. We know what is happening, and we know what happened to you, and what you said was true. Don't speak of this to anyone. Meet us at the police station at 1:00 AM tonight. We are getting weapons and getting out of here. The infection is becoming larger and larger. Get food, water, any supplies necessary. We have to get out before the Quarantine. Don't. Tell. Anyone. -Zoey, John, Tanner, Christi, and Leo.

Nice job! Needed more spacing, sure, but it was a great first part. When do you think you will be making the next one?

BluemageKyle : I'm thinking of making the next part over the next week or two. It will have much more zombie action, and less hospital drama

I finished Episode 2 early. I am going to make them every Monday, so I can do the final rush to finish on the weekends, when I have more time. Get ready for the most climatic episode of the series: Episode 2 (Sorry the story is choppy, something is messed up with the HTML. I will fix it ASAP)
EDIT: I can't do that, it won't fix for some stupid reason. Ugh!

Episode 2: Escape

Leo was extremely nervous. The Government could come upon them any second, and seize them. They had already destroyed all the mics they found in the house, so they would be on to them. He couldn’t believe Christi had chosen 1:00 AM to leave. That was 6 hours from now. He was staying with John and Zoey at his house for the time being, packing up supplies.
Tanner and Christi were at the shopping center, picking up as many supplies as they could. He couldn’t believe how much had happened in the past 2 days. It was unthinkable. The moment they had left the hospital, after checking in on Mike, they realized something was wrong. Ana was dying, with no trace of an infection, or any prior diseases that could have done anything like what had happened to her. They had all gone to Christi’s apartment on the 4th floor of her building, and talked about what happened. They spent the night there, talking about what it could be.

They got a phone call from the hospital. Ana had died. She was gone. Mike hadn’t even gotten to say goodbye. It would crush him. They mourned her death, and made a memorial for her in Christi’s apartment. They continued talking for another half hour, until the apartment was attacked. They heard it from outside. The monsters. Tanner got a baseball bat from Christi’s closet, and opened up the door. It looked a lot like the monster, or Biter, as they called them, which had attacked Ana. Tanner knew this thing wouldn’t stop at anything to try and kill them. He brought it into the apartment, and hit it in the chest. He heard ribs cracking, but it wouldn’t stop. He hit it in the head, and the head went flying off like it was a baseball. It left a huge stain of blood on the carpet, not to mention a dead body left in Christi’s apartment.

Luckily, no one was awake. The group dragged the body and the head out of the apartment.

They buried it in the woods outside of the apartment. As they walked back to

the apartment, they only began to realize the consequences that could be had

from doing something like this. They got back to the apartment, but try as they

might, they couldn’t clean out the blood stains from the carpet. Christi

decided there was no going back now. They had to get out of this place.

At first, they tried warning people. They told them about what had happened to Ana. And

how those things were lurking around. No one believed them. They were dismissed

as crazy, and they had the right to do so. Their story was absurd. Nothing like

that could ever happen. They continued on though. As they spread the word, they

noticed something odd. They saw police officers following them. They tried to

shake them off, but they couldn’t. They also saw people dressed normally

following them too. They didn’t know why, but they were being hunted.

They had to get back to Mike. They had to either hope he was released from the hospital,

or sneak him out on their own. They turned around, heading directly towards the

people following them. Leo had to admit, they had some skilled people on the

hunt for them. Whoever this was, they had professional training. They were

incredibly inconspicuous, looking into store windows, even a few times going

into stores, and coming back later from a different spot.

They had to get cars first. Leo, Zoey, and John went back to get the Zoey’s car and find

Mike at the hospital. Christi and Tanner went back to the apartment to get

Christi’s car, so they could get supplies. They were going to get out of this

town.

Leo, Zoey and John finally got to Zoey’s house. She was living with her parents until she

got out of college. She was pretty spoiled, and had her own nice car. It held 5

people with enough trunk space to hold enough supplies for 2 weeks. Her mom and

dad were on a vacation out in Cuba. She knew they wouldn’t have come anyways.

They would think she was insane. She took the car, and drove Leo and John to

the hospital to stay with Mike.

Leo was sitting casually in the backseat. They weren’t very talkative, as there wasn’t

much more they could say without repeating themselves. He was looking around

the car, when he noticed something strange. There was a microphone in the car.

A small one albeit, but a microphone none the less. He realized they were being

monitored by the people who were following them. He had to hope they hadn’t put

in a camera either. Whatever they had gotten themselves into, it was much

bigger than just a few Biters.

He found a piece of paper and a pen, as Zoey’s car was extremely cluttered, and had lots

of random crap in it. He quickly scrawled down a note about what he had found,

and handed it to John, who was sitting right next to him. He nodded at Leo, and

gave it to Zoey when she got to a stoplight. They all knew, and all was silent

for the rest of the car ride to the hospital.

They got to the hospital, and they went to Mike’s room. They finally arrived, and Mike

began to talk about what he had heard. They knew it was true, they knew he was

right, but they couldn’t say anything. If these people who were following them

were as good at this as they seemed, they would’ve bugged the whole hospital

already. There was no way they could communicate. They just had to wait.

Meanwhile, Tanner and Christi were stocking up on supplies. Canned fruits and vegetables.

Clothes. Non-perishable food items. They were getting everything they could

before they ditched this town for good. They had no idea where to go, or what

to do, but something big was going to happen, and they weren’t going to be here

to see it.

Leo was sitting in the hospital, watching TV. Zoey gave him a pen, and a piece of paper

she snatched before she left the car. He scrawled down a note to give to Mike,

for when he got home. He couldn’t think of anything else to do, and giving him

the note in a hospital might arise suspicion. He crumpled it up and gave it to

Zoey. She must’ve realized what he was doing, because she stuffed the note in

her pocket without a second thought.

It was still extremely overwhelming for Leo. He had experienced so much in the past 2

days, yet he couldn’t even imagine what it was like for Mike. His girlfriend

had died. He had killed a man, and even though it was a Biter, it didn’t change

the fact that someone had died. He has had a terrible 2 days. Leo knew he

couldn’t focus on that though, he had to think about what to do next. What the

next move was. No one knew what was going to happen after they raided the

police station. They needed a plan.

“What do we do,” Leo began, “What do we do when we leave for the police station. Where do we go? We have no idea! We need a plan,”

“Do you have a good idea, or better yet, any idea?” asked Zoey

“No. And neither do you, or John. What happens after we leave this town? Do we just

drive until we find something? Or run into another town, in the same situation?

We need a plan, we can’t just dive into this.” Leo said

“Alright. Me and John will start planning. You go find some more stuff that we can stuff

in to my car, OK?” asked Zoey

“OK. We still have another 5 ½ hours until Tanner and Christi get back, so you have a

lot of time to plan,” Leo replied. He quickly got back to work, searching

Zoey’s house for anything he could scavenge. He explored the attic, the

basement, the bedrooms, but found very little that could be useful to them.

Most of the stuff they were brining was from her kitchen.

“Found

anything yet,” inquired Zoey, still writing down plans that they could use

after they got out of town.

“Not much.

I got a few sleeping bags, one of those big water jugs, and a crap-ton of

batteries,” Leo replied

“Alright.

It is only 9:30, we still have a few hours left until-,” Zoey stopped talking,

“Leo. Don’t make a sound. I heard something coming from outside. Grab a

baseball bat or something” she hissed to Leo.

Leo

stalked down the stairs. They had left a baseball bat inside somewhere, but he

forgot where Zoey had put it. He creeped through the house looking for it. He

was walking through the dining room when he heard a groan coming from the other

side of the dark room.

“Oh damn,”

Leo muttered under his breath, “ZOEY! WHERE THE HELL IS THAT BASEBALL BAT!

THERE IS A BITER IN THE HOUSE!” He yelled urgently

“I DON’T

KNOW, I LEFT IT IN THE KITCHEN SOMEWHERE,” Zoey replied. Meanwhile, the biter

was still approaching Leo. He grabbed one of the chairs, and knocked it in the

head. It became more enraged, and was violently running towards Leo. He reared

back, but it was too late, the biter was already upon him. He kicked out,

knocking the biters leg, stalling it for a vital second. He slammed the chair

down at the biters head, but it smashed in to pieces, scattering amongst the

floor.

The biter

approached Leo again. He knew he couldn’t hold it off forever, he needed a

plan. He dragged one of the legs from the broken chair. He dragged it along the

floor with his foot, and bent down to pick it up. Suddenly, he heard a grueling

*SMACK* from right above him, and a soft thump on to the ground. John had come

in with the baseball bat, and promptly smashed the biter in the head.

“Thanks

dude. You’re a life saver,”

“No

problem. Now let’s get out of here, this whole neighborhood is infested. The

biter got through the screen door, and more are bound to be coming. Looks like

we are leaving for the police station a little early,” said John.

Zoey left

a note for her parents explaining what had happened, and where they were going.

Hopefully they would come out OK. She grabbed her phone, and all three of them

left for the car. They hopped in, and sped away.

“Alright,

so what is this master plan you have going for us,” asked Leo

“We have a

basic route done. We are going to drive down from here in Poughkeepsie, and

drive south towards Pennsylvania. My parents own the place, and just spent a

week down at the lake house we have there. They should be heading off to NYC to

spend a few days sight-seeing, then will be driving back home. Hopefully they

get the note, and come back down to the lake house,” replied Zoey.

“We should

probably call Christi and Tanner to tell them we are leaving early,” John

announced.

Leo

responded, “Yeah. Who knows how bad the town is going to be in a few days. You

saw the yard out there- HOLY CRAP LOOK OUT!!!”

There were

two biters wandering the street alone, right in Zoey’s path. She swerved around

them, just in time. Unfortuantly, the tires lost their traction. She swerved

into a ditch in the side of the road. The car began to shriek its alarm.

“Are you

guys all OK,” asked Leo

“Yeah”

“Yes.”

The low

groan of a hoard of biters began to grow louder…

* * * * *

Tanner and

Christi were still hoarding up supplies. They decided to go to multiple

different shopping centers, to avoid attracting too much attention at one

place. They happened to be at the Wal-Mart when they heard it. It was quite

faint, but they heard the sound of a car alarm in the distance.

“Are you

hearing that,” asked Christi

“Yeah, it

sounds like a car alarm,” Tanner replied.

“Do you

think it could be…”

“It

probably is. We should probably get going soon. You should call Leo, let him

know that we are going to be leaving a bit earlier then expected,” replied

Tanner.

“Alright,

I’ll call him,”

Christi

pulled out her phone. She turned it on, but it immediately turned off.

“I’m out

of battery. I guess we will have to go back to the house anyways, to pick them

up. Let’s go.”

* * * * *

Mike was

furiously digging through his closet, looking for anything and everything they

might need. Apparently the government was doing their best to try and get all 6

of them locked up in jail or something, because they had bugged his entire

house. He went around searching, and found six mics in his room. Way too many

to take all of them out. He decided to leave them untouched, so they wouldn’t

be too suspicious about him. He had so many questions, but no answers to them.

It was

11:30, and Mike couldn’t find anything else to pack up. He decided to leave

early, so he could catch up with everyone else and find out what had happened.

This night was insane for him already. He picked up his stuff, and shoved it in

the back of his car. He pulled out of the driveway, and started driving.

He turned

on his radio. It was a 25 minute drive to Zoey’s house from his, so he wanted

to see if anything good was on. Most stations were playing really old music,

from like the 60’s or something. He turned the radio knob to the right. 94.7,

nothing. 95.3, static, must not be close enough yet. He tuned in to 104.9, and

heard something shocking.

“This is some breaking news here

Jim, tell us all about it.”

“Yes Naiomi, something big is

happing downtown. I’m getting reports of hoards of maybe 25, 30 people all

heading down a highway. Apparently they all look scarred or have open wounds

too. No one has approached them yet, because they look angry.”

“That’s right Jim, this looks like

an angry mob. Some are suspecting it might be a riot from a group of homeless

people, but it is too early to tell. Those near it say it is incredibly

strange, they almost seem zombie-like.”

That was

all Mike needed to hear. He sped the rest of the way to Zoey’s house. He pulled

up the car, and got out quickly. He ran up to the door, and slammed on it as

hard as he could.

“YOU GUYS!

ARE YOU IN THERE? WE GOTTA GO NOW, SOMETHING BIG IS HAPPENING!!” he screamed.

He got no reply. He screamed for another three minutes, and decided to take

matters into his own hands. He grabbed an axe from his car that he found at his

house. He smashed open the door, to find a cloud of the monsters cluttering the

room.

Mike

backed away, and screamed out in to the house, “ARE YOU GUYS IN THERE?” The

monsters began to approach him. He knew he couldn’t take them out on his own.

He ran out of the house, and climbed in to his car. He needed to think of a

plan, quick. He began contemplating, watching as the monsters approached his

car. He backed up from the driveway, buying him some time. He had no idea what

to do next. Just then, everything went black. The streetlights flickered off

one by one, and the porch-lights turned off just as fast. The power was gone.
I finished Episode 2 early. I am going to make them every Monday, so I can do the final rush to finish on the weekends, when I have more time. Get ready for the most climatic episode of the series: Episode 2 (Sorry the story is choppy, something is messed up with the HTML. I will fix it ASAP)

probably is. We should probably get going soon. You should call Leo, let him

know that we are going to be leaving a bit earlier then expected,” replied

Tanner.

“Alright,

I’ll call him,”

Christi

pulled out her phone. She turned it on, but it immediately turned off.

“I’m out

of battery. I guess we will have to go back to the house anyways, to pick them

up. Let’s go.”

* * * * *

Mike was

furiously digging through his closet, looking for anything and everything they
