I have intrinsic cardiomyopathy- diagnosed two years ago when I had a minor heart attack [ in church, of all places. ] Is there by any chance anyone else here who has a heart problem? I've only met one other person who has a heart condition-- my best friend who has the same problem that I do lol.
Anyways.

I don't think I do, thou I have never been checked out.
There have been times when I am doing my own thing, and out of nowhere I get a really bad pain in the region of my heart.
When that happens I cant breath without a great deal of pain, it passes over time usually within 5 minutes or so.
But if this is a heart condition I couldn't say, I would be interested to know if anyone else has had this happen to them.
If so they might be able to give some insight in to it.

catastrophcize I hope everything goes well with you stay safe ^^

i dont have any problems, but one night i was playing basket ball with some friends and suddenly i felt a pain in my chest. when i put my hand there my heart was beating way faster than it ever needed to be! i got scared for a bit and then suddenly, like SUDDENLY, it dropped the beats per second. that really freaked me out. i stopped playing for awhile

EvilAlu : I know exactly what you have. I have it too. Tell me if this is familiar. When the episode happens, you have to take very short breaths or else it feels like a dagger is poking deeper into your heart. 2 things make it end. Wait for a few minutes, or just focus on breathing in just a little bit deeper with each breath until you can finally breath in all the way. Also, you find yourself avoiding any movements that involves moving/stretching your torso because it makes that stabbing pain. If that is familiar to you, you have Precordial Catch Syndrome

rcarter2 : That's exactly it, everything you described is what I go through.
When it happens I try to hold my breath while moving, it helps a little but the pain is still there.
No idea what it could be, I have had people tell me its heart burn, but it doesn't feel like it when it happens.

EvilAlu : Definitely not heartburn. It is PCS. What happens is the myocardium (outermost tissue layer of your heart) literally catches onto something in your chest such as your rib cage or your lungs. When you breath in and expand your rib cage, it pulls on that tissue layer, causing that stabbing feeling. There are no real no known causes and it isn't exactly common. However, no need to worry. It has not been shown to hinder people who have it (other than the times the episodes happen) and it has not been known to cause any other problems.

EvilAlu : If it gets worse/hurts more when you breathe, it could be pleurisy. That's what it sounds like; but I'm no doctor so don't take my word for it. And thank you~ It's manageable, I just can't drink caffeine or do things like run/dance for a long time otherwise I feel really weak. But I'm a speed skater [quad] which is really active; so it's not like I'm completely bedridden or something

Not as far as I can tell. And people in my family who had heart problems had it coming (overweight, smoking, sedentary, etc), so I should be safe from an early death.
