are you asking permission to hack? If its what you wanna do... do it... who cares if others like it... 

personally I make hacks because I enjoy them, if others enjoy them, that's just a nice side effect... 


now if you are asking for help that's another story, we would probably need to know more about how you are wanting the game to play out and what you are going to do to it... storyline and all that good stuff...

Personally, I would have all the starters available to choose, all fire, water and grass plus a few others, like Eevee.
