It is a sandbox game. You basically spawn in a blocky world where you obtain natural resources to build your structures and survive, as well as finding valuable materials and treasures below. Monsters spawn at night and will try to destroy you.

It is more fun playing multiplayer online. You should also look it up on YouTube on what it is. They continue to update the game to add more stuff and there are also people who make mods of the game as well as adventure maps for it.

Well Minecraft is a game involving blocks, survival (If playing survival, that is), and imagination! If you play survival you sart off in a randomly generated world that goes on forever. There is also mobs (Creatures) like cows, chickens, pigs, and monsters like the notorious creeper. Along with the skeleton, and zombie  mobs. Which means you can craft weapons and tools to harvest materials and mine!
Or, if you'd chose to have infinite supplies and make tons of cool things, you can do creative mode where you have all items, an infinite amount of items, and the ability to fly. The game is 27 dollars I believe.
