mister sandman : Unfortunately there really isn't a great way to straighten hair without heat. The heat is actually part of a chemical reaction so it's required for any sort of lasting effect. Without going into too much crazy detail, hair is somewhat bonded to each other with sulfur bonds to each other. By adding heat, these bonds break, allowing these bonds to separate and then bond with other Sulfur molecule, thus creating the new hair shape/pattern. This is why hair has that characteristic smell as well.

Yeah, the heat is pretty much the best lasting way, really.

Wetting it down could also possibly help it out, but not too long I'd imagine, and with low quality as well, Nya~.

I kinda just recommend growing it out long and then thinning it out. I haven't tried it out myself honestly, but it kinda seems like it'd work well when you think about it, despite taking a longer time...

mister sandman : how.. oily is your hair? Because, before I joined the Army, my hair was long as mess... almost as long as yours when straight, It curled when it reached the bottom of hair line if I had a military cut like I do now. So, what I would do is take a hot shower, and just soak my hair while I was in there. Then, I would get out, and wrap it in a towel for about 20 minutes. Comb it out with my sister's brush, and then soak it in semi-cool water under the sink, and let it air dry, and comb it with a small man's style comb. It worked for me. Maybe if you told me your race, and how oily your hair is and what color it is, I could help you more. I actually have a little experience here, because when my hair was long, I would only let women in salons touch my hair for the 3 years that I grew it out.
