I had started on making a 2d rpg a while ago but the program had update issues so I stopped. I have decided that I want to start programming this game again except I want to try making it using 3d graphics. The programs I will be using will be between UDK, Blender, and Unity (these are all legally free-to-use and from the official sites). Although I would like to narrow down which is the best of those. I have programmed small personal apps before so I could easily pick up on a game programming language if necessary but, I do not know a lot of the required key details. I also wonder if anyone would have tips when doing a story line on a game. My brother actually is the one doing the story for it but I want to know key things like where or even how I should program the story.

thanks,
MITCHELW

note: When I started to program the 2d version I was only 15... now I'm 18 so just so everyone knows I won't quit if there are issues... point being that all advice won't be wasted.

also note: sorry for saying... or i should say "asking" so much and thanks

I would either recommend Unity or UDK. Use Blender as a 3D modeling program for your game.

EDIT: Apologies for bumping this, by the way.

Blender has a really great community that could be very helpful for making a game. I saw a guy who had no experience making games at all, just asking for some opinions on a space ship model, when everyone started asking him if he would make a game around it. Several months later he, with the help of the Blender community, had a working (though boring) game. A year later he's still working on it, and it's starting to look like a really great shooter.
