well pretty much the title cause a lot of times the computer I'm on cant mute just the one window and most of the games I play don't have any type of mute button/option in the options and I usually listen to music on YouTube while I play games on vizzed so this is something I think would be good for the RGR and that I believe most others would also like too.

yea except the computer I usually use doesn't do that so I would need a mute button for RGR to do anything about the sound

Unfortunately, this isn't something that's likely to occur anytime soon. David has poured a lot of money into RGR plugin development lately and I think he'd much rather focus on site features for a while instead of having another plugin version released. It can get very expensive to pay for plugin features and donations are kind of minimal.

If I can put some input into this thread, this question has been asked many times since I signed up to this site a couple years ago. It can be muted if you have win vista or win 7, if you have win xp it won't work... sorry.

tRIUNE : I am on windows 7 and I found that there is an option in the menu to turn the sound off. Is that what you are talking about? Is there any reason why that option wouldn't be there for Windows XP as well? That seems strange to me.

Unless I'm talking about something different than you are for muting the sound.

tRIUNE : oh, that's not what I was talking about.

With the RGR plugin emulator if you go into the menu and pick config and then go down to sound and you should be able to change the sound settings. I personally set mine off so it doesn't play sound with the RGR plugin and now any game I start using the plugin hasn't played any music.

I attached a picture that shows where to go.

Hopefully this helps.

geeogree : Oh..ok I see what you're saying, I think. That emu menu is the zsnes menu for the super nintendo in the retro game room, right? So, you're saying each emulator in the rgr should have the emu options available to mute sound...that will take another build of the plugin.

Yeah, you can do this on the SNES because that emulator has the FULL menu enabled. No other emulator gives you actual access to the menu to disable sound. If they did, this wouldn't be an issue. However, enabling menus on other emulators probably has some kind of drawback that I'm not aware or else it would have been done a long time ago, I'm sure.

Crazy Li : you're probably right. I wonder how many other emulators do allow sound changes. I haven't played enough other consoles to actually find this out. I'm more than willing to test it but I imagine we could get it tested pretty fast with the site staff. That is if we aren't already confident that the SNES is the only console that can do it.

geeogree : I'm confident. There is no other emulator on Vizzed that gives you menu access. As a result, you will not be able to go into the sound options of any other.

Almost every emulator on Vizzed in its pure form allows you to disable sound, though. It's just the Vizzed version that does not. Like for Gameboy and Gameboy Advance, the VBA emulator is used a basis which has sound options in its menu (not accessible through Vizzed). Genesis/32X/Sega CD uses Gens which also has Sound options in its menu (also not acessible through Vizzed). NES uses... FCEUX? If so, that also has Sound options in the menu that you can't get to through Vizzed.

Does that make sense? I hope I'm explaining this clearly enough.

soulofchaos : That's impossible to know. If David does approve of the idea, he first has to go to the plugin developer and ask him to add this feature. From there, he'll probably get an estimate of cost. Assuming he can afford to pay this, he'll green-light the idea. From there, the developer has to actually go and make these changes to each and every emulator on the site. Then we need it to be tested to make sure there's nothing wrong. THEN the new version of the plugin can be publicly released. This can take a good while just from the green-lighting of the idea... and there's no telling when David will be able to actually give this idea the okay, assuming he even wants to.

Crazy Li : I've been around for a very long time but I've never followed the development of the RGR plugin in much detail. I'm glad someone around here knows a lot about it because I don't. I just wondered if anyone had known that at least some of the games can have the sound off.

At the very least we can pass that info and the Windows Vista/7 along as answers to this question that comes up almost daily

Yeah, the mixer on Windows 7/ Vista should allow you to turn off the sound on the emulator so you don't hear the game's noise. I'm glad that my laptop is windows 7 because I like to listen to music while I'm playing.
