Although I'm certain there's got to be a thread like this somewhere, I was unable to find it. Therefore, if there is, I apologize.
I was thinking last night though.... Is there anything unique that you like to collect? I'm not talking about trading cards or parking tickets (though in it's own right, it'd be interesting if someone intentionally collected them! LOL).
What started you collecting those things, and how big is your collection? Are there any pieces you're looking to add if it's a known collection? How much money have you put into it?
I just like to collect silly small things. Don't ask me why, but I like to collect dice, for example. I've always loved them but I can't remember why. I have green ones, pink ones, red ones, white ones, large ones, small ones.... etc. I collected pogs and marbles at one time as well, but my parents got rid of those during one of our many moves. I also seem to have an obsession with stickers and sticky notes.
I know there are other weird things I like to collect, but I can't think of them at the moment. When I think of them in the future, I'll add them.
My prized collection, though? I collect really, really old bibles. I remember first seeing one in an online police auction, and out of curiosity I bid on it... paying about $40 for it. It was around 80 years old, and when I received it in the mail, I was absolutely enthralled. There were pressed flowers in it, as well as a program for a remembrance service of a family member that had died. I loved the old, fragile papers... the cracking leather, and faded family tree written in flourished calligraphy with a fountain pen.
I went back to the police auction site and bought several more, though they were always a rare find. I have four, ranging between 80 and 130 years old. I think I've spent about $150 on them, and I would definitely like to add more at some point. Even just the idea that these were valued possessions in some families is enough to make me treasure them. Passed down from generation to generation, they got lost in time somewhere, which is a little sad. I like to think about the families that held them and treasured them, treating them as sentimental objects and heirlooms.
