Hey everyone I wanted to know that do you think homosexuality is or isn't family friendly, since I've seen some things saying that it isn't because children aren't sure of there own sexuality and that they shouldn't be shown things like that because parents fear it can change what they think.
I think thats a whole buch of bulls***, I don't see what's so innapproate about homosexuality I see straight teenagers making out in front of little kids and people are ok with that but its a problem when I want to kiss my boyfriend? Well you know my feeeling on it but how about you, do you think homosexuality is family friendly, why or why not.

Well if you ask me, the straight couple making out isn't exactly "family friendly" either.

I don't feel it's any less appropriate to let the fact that you are in a homosexual relationship be known than a heterosexual one.

I believe in equality and double standards are stupid.

Yeah, I agree. It's ridiculous to say that stuff isn't "Family Friendly", yet have straight couples flaunt their relationships and stuff in all sorts of ways. Though, do not be fooled, that doesn't mean I think that it's right to flaunt either in any way, really. If anything, it makes you pretty much look like you have really low self esteem, needing to show of your significant other to everyone in such ways, Nya~.

Though, if it's a normal couple just holding hands and stuff like that, then that's perfectly fine, whether they're straight or homosexual. I really only have a problem when they're kissing each other for hours in public.

But anyways, I think homosexuality in general, ignoring all the ways to express your relationship, is quite fine and as family friendly as being straight, Nya~.

austipokedude : No, don't bring me into this. I muted you because there was a homosexual in the room finding you spouting the word "gay" offensive. I muted you for good reason.

As for whether it's a family friendly topic? I think it's something you should teach your kids about early, so they don't freak out when they see two males or females holding hands or something. However, I also think it's a touchy topic, and if you talk about it, I feel you should be careful what you say, because you could offend somebody.

Basically the same thing that the rest have said. I see no problem with holding hands and walking around. But, homosexual or straight, I really could do without seeing people kissing for hours on end.

I don't see why it must be taken so differently if its just a basic opinion of sex choice. There are many other things that could be taken into account if it where to deal with family friendly things such as Religion and Patriotism because these things are more grouped and diverse to different opinions seaming as homosexuality is somewhat of a small one.

I agree that gay or straight you should keep it in your pants in front of kids. As for explaining it to your kids, I don't have any but I could imagine having that conversation with my nephew. Whoo I'm glad I don't have to explain why  that man is groping another man.

I think it is rather short sighted to "censor" or remove homosexuality from every day life, television, movies, commercial, and so on. You may not have to agree with it, but homosexuals are here and just like heterosexuals, one has to show a certain degree of tolerance to it.

Yes, I said heterosexuality is tolerated, even if it is what people and society consider "the norm."

I say it is short sighted because children eventually grow up and will find out the world has MANY things different to what they were brought up to believe and see. I did not even know what "gay" meant when I was a kid and people were spouting it off. A friend of mine simply told me it was "something you do not want to be called," and for the longest time I just considered as awful as a bad word, thus never asked my parents about it.

It bothers me that kids and teen shows do not press on about homosexuality a little. I can more understand not introducing it to kids, as that is arguably a hard time to decipher when a child is ready to hear about it. However, I think it should be at least MENTIONED once kids start hitting puberty ages (give or take a few years). A show does not have to go far to introduce a gay couple into something. It all depends on how it is portrayed for whether it can be deemed "family friendly."

If you have guys dressed in leather, or looking like drag queens to portray what a homosexual is, not only is that offensive, but wrong* and not family friendly. However, just like one could see a typical heterosexual family or neighbors, a show could easily show two friendly guys that happen to live together and love each other without getting to into it.

*Depends the show; some do it for laughs and not to persecute, segregate, or categorize homosexuals in general.

having no parents, being adopted by a gay couple, which is better /sarcasm.
Since sex isnt a part of the parent child relationship it makes no difference.
Honestly if people want to live with such intolerance they should move to iran or some such place, they love prejudice hate and intolerance.
But the west is democratic, and gays are still not treated equaly, especialy in the usa.

Well, I have to agree with most everyone here.  I think affection is not for public display, no matter who it's between.  I mean, it's nice to see people in love. Holding hands, sweet kisses, hugs...... all okay in my mind.  But making out, grinding bodies, or groping body parts?  TOTALLY wrong in my opinion.  That stuff is meant to be kept between yourselves, and if you just want to put on a public display, the actions don't mean as much in my opinion.

servbot128 : I do work in a high school, but it doesn't mean I enjoy watching that stuff!  LOL  In fact, it's more disturbing with younger people in my opinion.

Luckily though, I teach in a magnet school, meaning kids have to apply to get in.  Since they're not zoned for the school, they can get kicked out quite easily if they misbehave.  Plus, most kids are there because they or there parents WANT them to focus on learning.

So luckily, I actually don't see it very often.  I hardly see kids doing more than holding hands here at this school, though they've been caught doing..... 'it' in all sorts of locations.  Maybe I'm just lucky because I have a reputation of taking no nonsense.  LOL

What kinda sexuality is family friendly? What kind of sexuality you would flaunt in front of a say, five year old? Or what do you mean by family? Like in my family where there are currently no small children where there are only adults present at family get togethers, should I tell my uncle not to tell his gay jokes? Not becausce I dont think they are funny, but because they are not family friendly?

My mother was talking to me about her talk with a fundamentalist about this the other day. She told me how he went on about how exposing children to that life style is making them choose to be homosexual because we are born without sin. Well first of all neither my mom or I believe it's a sin. I'm actually a bi-sexual single mom. Second I believe man created what is sin. Third human at any age are sexual beings. Even my mom straight up said to him that she highly doubt when he was a baby that he never explored his own body. Because we all have it's just the nature of the beast. In fact there has been proof we even do it when we are in the womb. Sexuality is completely natural. With that said do I think it's ok to flaunt my sexuality in front of my son, be it guy or girl? Of coarse not! But what you are attracted to is only a small fraction of who you are and should not be what makes you a good parent.

thenumberone : How long have you lived in the United States to see how gays are treated on a day-to-day basis?  I forget.

I work at a YMCA, which is a christian-based organization.  Everyone, gay or straight, is treated well and large groups of people are able to get along without any problems.  Of course there is push-back with gays by some groups but that happens around the world.  People dislike others who aren't like them.  It's nature.

So the usa wasnt one of the last western nations to decriminalise homosexuality?it isnt one of the only western nations where politicians can spout anti gay ritoric without anyone batting an eyelid?it dosent still have one of the highest gay suicide rates? Hasnt just got around to allowing gays to join the military? Prevent gays from adopting?
My bad, i guess you're right, its actualy paradise on earth. Sincere apologies, you have to live somewhere to know anything about it.

thenumberone : "Honestly if people want to live with such intolerance they should move to iran or some such place, they love prejudice hate and intolerance."

I have read some of your posts.  You preach prejudice, hate, and intolerance against anything you disagree with.  You're clearly unhappy with your life situation but putting it on everyone else isn't fair.  How can you expect anyone to listen to you preach about how hateful America is when you act the same way.  You insult, you bully, and you constantly attack people.  It's not constructive, it's mean.  I'm surprised anyone pays attention to you.  You say America is bad. Look at how you treat people on here, much less real life.  But apparently we invaded you at some point and forced hip-hop, Coca Cola, and Levi jeans on your peoples.  I apologize for that.  I can't imagine why else you'd be so strong with your negative attitudes.

Also, you'll answer my question with: Never.  You have never lived in this country.  You can read all you want about us and our culture but if you haven't experienced it on a day-to-day level, you can't speak with any serious credibility.  I can read reports about the Vietnam War, or the Scotland in the 50s, or any Chinese Dynasty but I can't say I know what is happening or what's going on.  I don't read a tour guide and claim to be an expect on somewhere I've never visited.

I live here.  I always have, with the exception of military stints abroad.  What we have is depicted in various ways around the world but it certainly doesn't give you any true insight on what it's like here.  I have friends who are gay who are dealing with daily problems.  I have friends who experience live as gay men and women in the United States and while I can't share what they live through, I see it first hand.

You read some stats of wikipedia and you think you understand.  You don't, you won't, you probably never will because you are so close-minded.

I get it.  You're young, you're full of anger and rage and you hide behind boards and come up with well-researched ideas and throw them out there.  It's the nature of this internet thing.  I don't know what your life path is and I don't care.  You won't listen to anyone, you won't accept ideas of others and it's a waste of time to even do this because you won't be tolerant of others, American or not.  You won't truly read a word I write.  Others on here will.

Perhaps the U.S. has the highest homosexual suicide rate (may I have citation, please?) because so many people are willing to show who they are and they don't hide.  They make others aware of their sexuality because it's becoming acceptable.  And if you think people don't care about political debates over homosexuality, you've never seen an American election.

I won't debate the other points you make.  It's on you.  As for the United States, we're coming around.  We'll be more accepting of homosexuality one day.  Not yet but one day.

Will you personally be more receptive to those who don't agree with you, Thenumberone?

You can claim what you like, it doesent make it true.
Intolerance is acting/treating people, differently based on differences. And disalowing gays to have the same rights as others is intolerance. Pointing out flaws, is not. Not unless you try to stop people being different or chastise them for it.
I never said america was hatefull. I said gays arent treated fairely. I would say britain was militaristic, that doesent mean i hate my own country. One day you will realise that there is a difference between criticising and hating. America has many great aspects, as far as im concerned, social justice is lacking.
You are clearly foaming at the mouth, and making random acusations. Invaded us?forced coca cola on us? What the heck are you on about. The closest thing iv said to that is unrestricted capitalism is bad, not corporations are an evil american invention. And frankly, if it were the case, it would be on the uks shoulders because they make the calls here. What does this have to do with gays btw?
You havent been to the moon yet that wouldnt stop you talking about it.
I read every word you write, you speak as though you are all knowing yet really have no grasp of what you're saying, or whats said. You put out things i havent said, as though fact, to compensate for the fact you have no valid point. You seem to be the one thats angry, i cant guarantee you that i am not. Responsobility lies with everyone, that doesent mean you cant highlight certain points.
But i would say the same as you, you probably wont read this, because you are close minded. Maybe im as wrong as you in saying that but hey, at least im able to admit it.
I never said no one cared about gays, i was stating that its not seen as grossly unacceptable for politicians to be saying these things about gays. You see only what you want to. You should read some of what you claim and apply it to yourself, you would see it fits well.
People are welcome to disagree with me, its their right.
"while i disagree entirely with what you have to say, i will fight to the death for your right to say it."
Frankly, im as guilty as you of spamming this thread now so im not going to continue this, if it irks you that much you can message a rebuke. You can even make a thread titled 101 reasons thenumberone is a dictorial nazi and i wont try to get rid of it.
Hopefully that'd calm you down.
