I recorded a 7-minute long video of Super Mario World NES and the file size was about 400 MB but I used Freemake and it went all the way down to 50 MB.

Hey David. How do you reduce the video sizes using the program?  I installed the program because I'm making some tutorial videos for my students' final exams.  I tried using the program, but didn't see any option to 'reduce'.  I saw an option that will 'convert' the video to youtube, and although that process started, it doesn't seem to have shrunk the video size.  It's going to take hours at this rate, and I might lose my internet connection since it goes out frequently.

thetruemasterofgames :
Singelli: It's a little difficult for me to explain. If you don't understand there are some video tutorials on free make's website.
Click on the format you want to conver it to. Then a box should pop up. In the bottom right corner it should show the size of the file. Click on that (another box will pop up) then put how big you want it to be. (On the third box it will say the minimum and maximum size it can be)
BluemageKyle: Avi is good. On the bottom of the box it will show the names of the files it can conver to. Click one of those and select the file, size of the file, and then convert it.

earthwarrior :  What file type would I want to change it to, to upload it to youtube?  Right now I'm uploading one, and it's 76% done, but it's taken 5 hours.... -.-

When I went to file and 'convert to youtube', no box popped up that I remember.  Should I click on the big icon instead?

Singelli : I use avi for my rgr videos. I'm not sure what the difference is.
You click the big bubble on the bottom. Did tyou try clicking other files to see if a box showed up?

earthwarrior :  I went ahead and cancelled the upload, as much as it hurt me. XD  But I have to leave for my mom's in about 20 minutes anyways, so I might as well. It's not going to finish.  Okay, so I selected the avi option from the bottom and got through the boxes.  Do I need to change anything else?  Like the place where it says "Preset: Same as source",  or do I just hit 'convert' after changing the file size?

Singelli : You can keep the Present same as source the same. That changes the quality I think.
After you change the size you can just hit convert.

earthwarrior : Okay, thanks so much!  I can't finish testing this now 'cause I gotta run over to my mom's.  however, if I have any problems later tonight or tomorrow, I'll let you know!  I really, really appreciate the quick help!  Hopefully this will reduce some of my stress for all the kids that haven't been to my class in weeks and will want to find every excuse not to take their exams.  Thank you! Have a nice day!

I've tried Freemake to convert a Genesis video. The original file is ok, but it's too big and whenever i convert it, the screen gets stretched. I've tried different resolutions but it only made things worse. Any suggestions?? I'm using MP4/H.264 encoding btw, but i tried avi and it didn't change anything at all.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread to reply, but i couldn't find anywhere that seemed more proper than here.

EDIT: So, I've managed to solve the problem. In order for the video screen not to strech, Ironically I have to select the option to stretch the video and then manually select the resolution. Thanks satanos for the help.

SuperCrash64 : Same MAME games do that.

ryan0428 : If you don't compress the videos than they can take a very long time to upload and sometimes they can even fail to upload.

Have you tried AppGeeker video converter? It has options to handle that job.

The program?converts to and from many audio and video compression or container formats.

And in output settings panel, you can customize the file size and quality, please keep in mind the better quality, the larger the file size.

http://www.ilikemall.com/how-to/convert-flv-to-mov-mac.html

BTW, YouTube accepts .flv flash video well, so you may need to convert the file firstly before uploading to youtube if the file is incompatible.

Real sorry about the necropost, but I experienced some major problems with this. So I went to download Freemake, and every time I tried it forced my Chrome to close AND didn't do a thing for me. Also, it ended up infecting FireFox with Sweetpacks. I tried both the download from the original post on this topic and the offline one they provided, and neither worked. I'm on a Windows XP, so incompatibility might be the cause, but I don't understand why it would give me Sweetpacks of all things, and not even look like it's trying to install. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Mr. Nerd : I do know that the latest version of Freemake tries to install a bunch of garbage on your computer and because of this, I might stop referring users to Freemake.

Davideo7 : I ended up uninstalling Firefox from my old laptop, and everything seems to be fine. I also installed Freemake on my new computer, and nothing adverse happened except that I got an unwanted toolbar since I forgot to uncheck a box. I really don't agree with programs that have things you don't want bundled in, but I guess it's a good way to advertise. If I stumble a better video compressor that doesn't try to make you download other stuff I'll let someone know (if it's OK I'll put it on this topic), but for now Freemake is fine.

Mr. Nerd : The reason some of these programs bundle in other software is because these types of programs are usually free and they need a way to make money so people are willing to pay them money to bundle in their software.

The problem I have with the way freemake does it is that it doesn't give you an option to install the bundled software, it just does it. Most programs let you choose whether you want to install the bundled software or not and that's the way freemake should be.

It'd be great if you could find and recommend something better.
