a beast of a list right everyone?!

Charmander, totodile , mudkip, turtwig, oshawott and chespin. Hardest decision ever for gens I and II.

Going down the list it would probably have to be:
Kanto: Charmander
Johto: Cyndaquil
Hoenn: Mudkip
Sinnoh: Piplup
Unova: Oshawott

Never played anything past generation 1 but here's my list if I had to choose them. Note two things: 1) Generation 1 has a 4th option if you have Pokémon Yellow: Pikachu(granted he's your ONLY choice in that version). The upside to Yellow though is that you can determine which Kanto starter you like the best in Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander when you get them later in the game and its the only game that allows you to get the starter Pokémon in the series without trading.

So without further ado:

Generation 1(Red, Green, Yellow(*see above*) Blue, FireRed, LeafGreen): Squirtle(Tough little character and unlike the other two, does not have a dual type final form. Does very well against the Kanto region Gym Leaders(except Erika and Lt. Surge).

Generation 2(Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, SoulSilver): Totodile(Love his final form)

Generation 3(Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald): Mudkip(Love his dual type final form, although Blazeken(Torchic's final form) comes in a very close 2nd)

Generation 4(Diamond, Pearl): Turtwig(Final form's dual type seems the best, just avoid ICE).

Generation 5(Black, White): Snivy(Oshawott  is a close 2nd but I like Snivy's final form)

As for Generation 6, if I had to pick one it would be Fennekin based solely on looks. Ironic how its my only fire type choice but when more info on it is released, I'd not be surprised if I switch to Chespin.
