I have the Sony PSP 1001 (Phat) and I was wondering if anyone else used the PSP to emulate games, or to have it function outside its normal parameters?

As of now I've got mine to work as a controller for my PC (great to play vizzed games with) as well as Emulate some of my ScummVM games (Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle and so, I owned them on old Diskettes still collecting dust)

AS well as a small collection of NES, SNES and GB games I have stuffed in a drawer somewhere. Though recently found I can link a couple PSPs via wireless to play games together with my wife, good times.

And of course, I HATE UMD's (namely the load load load load that flaws a otherwise great system) so I have them backed up as CSO's and ISO's and just loaded onto my memory stick (no, don't ask for them)

So, anyone else hack their PSP? Or would anyone like to know how to hack their PSP? (It's gotten alot easier since the early days of the system and the old Patapon kernal hacks...)

Beastmode64 :

Eh? I've deleted, updated and reinstalled all kinds of Emus on my psp several times without any problems. Using the PRO B cfw anyway with Cipl.

What problems have you had with it?

Beastmode64 :

Hmmmmm....

Strange, the only thing I could think that might cause that is the older Kernal hacks which could affect the PSP in a bad way if you weren't careful.

That or if you had the PSPgo or the Slim2004 model (think it was 04 ) which had different hardware and made them very hard to hack.

Would it read off any error message before going blank? And would the psp just go to a blank screen when you turned it on? Or just after you tried to launch a emulator? Because if its going blank as soon as you turn it on, then the PSP has been bricked and would take a bit of work to unbrick it.

Then its been bricked. This used to spell the end of the PSP's life span, however it IS possible to save it.

http://www.pspmod.com/forums/psp-homebrew/12094-unbricking-fully-bricked-semi-bricked-psp.html

This should help you get into recovery mode, if your PSP is only Semi Bricked (able to recover on its own) this will show you how, if its not, then you might have to take more drastic steps, try this first however, 90% of the time this will work.

EDIT:
Oh, and one more thing. This site has the best ways to mod/hack your PSP with minimal risk of bricking it. If you happen to have a spare like I do you can fix it up but if you'd like to write a tutorial out to do it I'd be happy to.

Hope it works!
