My mom has always told me That not getting enough sleep is not good for ur help, But I dont get it, I usually sleep at 11 PM Or midnight and I end up waking a few times, And these times include 1 am, then 3 am, Then 5 or 6 am..

But I don't see how is it bad for ur health, I been like this for years and I'm still the original me.

If you don't sleep you'll lose your memory and I mean completely awake because when you sleep this gives your brain time to sort and organize all the memories that has happened also you'll have a harder time controlling your emotions another thing is you'll be short the rest of your life.

Losing sleep is very bad for your health. There are research studies on it if you google it.

For one, sleep is the time in which your body does the most healing.  For another, your brain functions better when it has enough sleep.

The amount of sleep each person actually requires varies on the person. Some people can do fine on 6 hours a sleep. Others need as much as 10. I can't tell you how much your body actually requires but it IS bad to get too little consistently.

Sleeping accomplishes many things for you. It allows your body and mind to rest. Mental rest is essential for being able to function properly. You also recover energy and can recover from both physical and mental strain best when asleep.

It's not essential to sleep X amount of hours straight in a row. Sleeping for 2 hours at a time 4 times in a 24 hour period can be just as effective as sleeping 8 hours straight.

The most important sleep is your REM sleep. This is when your body is truly recovering. I also believe this is the reason why different people need different amounts of sleep. If it's difficult for them to enter their REM cycles, they'll hafta keep trying to sleep for longer than someone who can enter REM right away.

It's not a super major concern that you keep waking up during the night as long as you do go back to sleep and get a decent amount of overall sleep. Though if you can avoid waking up, you'll probably feel better. I know the more soundly I sleep, the more rested I feel when I wake.

Yes not getting enough sleep can be bad for you. If you don't get enough sleep, you'll feel tied, and the tied feeling can reduce your preformance at school and work.

Waking up a few times in the night I would assume is normal as I do the same thing. It could also mean that your having a lot of stress, your worried, or you might be sick.

Yeah, your brain  functions better with more sleep. During sleep your brain cleans out all of the proteins from itself and allows it to functions properly. I got terrible sleep from 6-14 years old. And I read at a twelfth grad reading level when I was 11. But after 11:00, I couldn't read at the speed of a five year old. If you don't believe us, then I just have to say, with no disrespect, look at the reports. Scientists everywhere tell us sleep is important.

Not getting enough sleep can be detrimental to your health. You'll suffer from a lowered immune system, which will make you get sick more often, your brain will get foggy, making it difficult to remember things or put together simple logical thoughts, and it can lead to increased risk of heart failure.

Take it from someone who has had sleeping issues for the last 4-5 years... A lack of sleep can be detrimental to your health.... It can also affect you socially as well, as people who don't get enough sleep tend to struggle to have logical thoughts and tend to do things a lot without noticing...  Plus people who suffer from lack of sleep tend to be easy to anger.. Or not very talkative at all..

There memory is also very poor and they can have conversations and then forget them hours later....

I guess you could also add the fact that lots of lethal accidents are caused by lack of sleep.. Like falling asleep at the wheel..... or not being able to concentrate fully whilst working with machinery

Like everyone has said, the answer to that is a firm yes. However, as Crazy Li pointed out, the amount of sleep you need varies not just from person to person, but also where you are in your life cycle. I know when I was younger I never needed that much sleep, but the older I get the more sleep i require.

Have you ever found yourself micro-sleeping? Micro-sleeping is when you blank out for brief periods of time, often as short as a few seconds, but during that time you are completely asleep. That's a huge danger sign right there-I remember when I was working two jobs, I would find myself blanking out on the drive home on the highway. Good thing there wasn't anyone around me.

Sleep is also the time your brain needs to sort through and process all the information you've received during the day and to sort it out into the correct category. People who are short on sleep have serious issues with both short term and long term memory loss, association issues, and logic.

You might not be noticing the problems now...but it's a cumulative problem, believe me. Take a little extra time for sleeping. Even an extra half an hour of solid REM sleep will do you a world of good when you're older.

DwarvenKnuckleBuster : I guess I can be as good a person to discuss this one as anyone else. I hardly ever sleep straight through anymore. I am a writer and when I am working I tend to work on material overnight and such. The problem is my hours have always seemed out of whack for the most part. It started when I was a teenager and hasn’t changed much since. So even when I’m not working on material (I’ve been inactive for a couple of months) I really don’t sleep much.

I also deal with aches and pains because I don’t really exercise and always have something on my mind so that also doesn’t help. There is nothing worse than wanting a good sleep and having so much stuff on your mind that like it or not keeps you up.

As far as it being bad for your health I am not a doctor but I wouldn’t recommend what I do to anyone especially when I’m working because I tend to push myself to an insane degree when I’m working and don’t really give myself adequate time for myself much less to rest.

dreadfully bad, it slows done mechancial function, one of the main factors of car wrecks is lack of sleep, messes with critical thinking, and retards motor skills.  You never get used to less sleep you just don't notice the changes.
