I know with the current system, anyone can become trusted pretty quickly. Would it be possible to make it so that users can still vote for someone but it doesn't make that person trusted without staff evaluation & approval?

I agree that there need to be changes.
A few people currently using the board gained the trusted status within hours simply because they had friends on the site, whereas in my opinion, a few hours is simply not enough to judge someone's trustworthiness.

However, this has been discussed many times.  The trust point system is a popularity contest right now, but it's on Davideo's list of things to fix.  It's at the bottom of the list though, since he's a very, very busy owner.  He does have a plan to fix it and we just have to patiently wait.  After all, it's not as though it's very important.  

Don't fret.

Yes, there has been intensive staff discussion on this topic. We all agree that it's a broken system and various people have given their input on how to fix it.

It's not of high priority though since it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I think David wants to focus on new site features before revamping systems in place. It's not like the faulty trusted system is causing any serious problems after all.
