Hello Vizzed!

I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself. This is a great site and I find it hard to believe it has taken me until recently to discover it. I actually got referred here from another website, AboveTopSecret.com. I can't remember exactly what the thread was about, I think it was a discussion about favorite childhood games and the earliest memories of playing them.

My name is Enki Amenra and I currently live in the United States of America. I mill hardwood flooring in my shop behind my house, I install and finish/re-finish new and old hardwood flooring too, I also design, blueprint, mill and assemble custom hardwood flooring or kiln fired tiles in elaborate medallion inlays.

If I didn't think real hard, I would probably say the first gaming console I played was the NES, but when I think hard, I seem to vaguely remember sessions with games that aren't on the NES.

Example of that would be; Tanks-A-Lot, I thought that game was on NES, but apparently it was not produced under that title... instead it was released on the NES as 'Battle City'.... even now, as I think about it, I recall the games box, it was similar to a vhs cassette box and I think it may have been silver?

Ha ha, remembering a little more now... seems like we had several boxes like that and several different games for the system... maybe is was Commodore?... I'll try to figure it out, I always love coming across childhood items that have been long forgotten...

I used to love Final Fight, Indiana Jones (arcade version of the mid-80's), Kung Fu, SMB of-course, the original Zelda, Excitebike, Mad Max, and many others from when I was a yute (youth).

Not sure I can pinpoint the very first time I played a video game, I do know it was love at first sight, like a blinding realization of absolute truth  . I was inextricably glued to the controller, my thumbs became raw and my middle-fingers, just above the last knuckle, were blistered   from the very first time I played. Forever since that fateful day of scripted destiny, with the help of my new, true-love, I've been melting my brain cells & social status every chance I get..

All joking aside, this is a great site and I hope it gets the mainstream popularity, around the world, that it deserves. Even though there are a few things I might improve (and that may be from general lack of Vizzed Board/RGR experience), Vizzed is most capable of competing with any other meme or totally original site that operates in the same genre.

*tosses a towel, you know, for your ears*

Wow!  What an intro and I absolutely adored reading it!  Most new users don't take the time to write out something so detailed and vividly worded!  Thank you!  I wish I had more to say, as your post definitely warrants it.

However, being a busy high school teacher, I have mountains of papers to grade.  I just wanted to welcome you, and thank you on your lovely introduction.  If you eve have any questions, feel free to pm me or a mod!

Singelli :

Hi Singelli!

Thanks so much for complimenting my new thread here. I am not a writer, but I have always liked to write my thoughts out, just to see what comes out of me... if that makes any sense at all...

I am not really good at navigating this site yet, for the most part, I have been playing the games. I didn't really realize this was a forum site. Is it a forum site with games, or is it a game site with a forum?

It seems more like the former, because these boards seem fairly active and that is not something I have ever noticed on game sites with a forum too. Most of the other sites I've seen use their forums for trouble shooting and BETA testing new features and design concepts being considered as additions to those various web-sites, respectively.

If you don't mind my question, what class do you primarily teach?

Edit to add;

How do you all get so much Viz banked in your account? That's crazy! You are like Warren Buffett and (if I were a girl) I am like Little Orphan Annie!

Really, I am very new here and I am sure I will learn more and more until I know how to efficiently manage my account's structure

=-)

I like the verse in your signature, here is one of my favorites;

If thou can'st believe, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE to those who BELIEVE  ~  Mark - 9:23

Enki812 :  I love to read long posts and I love it when people ramble.  I guess perhaps because I have the tendency to ramble myself.  LOL  As evidence of that, I've moved into the top 20 posters after only around 60 days of being an active member.  That means that I have posted enough words to beat out some members which have been active for more than a few years.  Yipes!

So trust me when I say that I'm more than happy to answer any and all questions.

I think the site was originally intended to be a game site with a forum, and to my knowledge the vast majority of people registered stay secluded to the game room.  However, activity here is indeed impressively high.  I've always insisted that Davideo, the owner, is a marketing genius. Many of the implementations I've made on my own forum board were inspired by his design and with his blessing.  I'll admit that at first, the board may seem a little overwhelming, but you quickly get accustomed to it and it becomes easier to navigate.

I teach high school math, namely Algebra II. I can teach any kind of math, but it's been the class I've taught for a few years now.  Mainly, my classes consist of 10th and 11th graders.

As for vizzed, it's quite easy to earn.  hehe.  Mainly, I got mine from posting.  As I'm sure you noticed, every post you make, you get Viz for.  Once you get off of newbie status, you also get more Viz as the length of your posts increases.  Since I tend to ramble, most of my posts are long and thus I get a lot of Viz.  However, Davideo offers a plethora of earning opportunities, including being a staff member, donating games and/or cash, and completing various tasks.  Most members are also generous enough to offer Viz for various things.  Most of these opportunities can be found in the forum area entitled Vizzed Market.

And oh!  I had to move away from my keyboard before I got to typing this response, and I see your addition about the bible verses. How.... completely awesome!  That's a very, very nice verse indeed.

The verse in my signature is very special to me. It's a long story, but it's what drove me into a saving relationship with Christ.  It's very, very dear to my heart.

Singelli :

Just the other day, I was thinking about Algebra and pre-calc, calc, when I was I HS - specifically the teachers. I am absolutely horrible with Algebra, but I manage geometry...

I have a 15 year old brother and, until a few years ago, taught him with home schooling. I got stuck with the task, mainly because my mom and dad teaching him would be akin to an ant trying to teach an adult human how an airplane wing works. I don't know why they thought I would be any better, after all, they did see how I graded out when I was in school.

He wanted to attend high school, friends, social life, etc., so we wrapped up his home-schooling and sent him to public school. He left home-school on 8th grade mathematics and began pre-algebra at his new school. That was 2 years ago...

Anyway, he came over last Friday and we went to a local high school football game (Maryville Rebels, I have to brag here, the Rebels have only lost 2-3 games in the past 12 years! and their rival, Alcoa HS is nearly as good. Both have won every state title this century, except maybe 2-3)...

OK, back to my point... Slowly, but surely, I'll get to it.

After the game I had him do some of his homework, so it would be done and we could do something over the weekend. He was on an Algebra-I assignment when he asked me to help him out.

I was pretty confident I could, at least,  get him on the right path... I am not sure I have ever been more wrong about something!

I couldn't recognize any of the equations, aside from the letters where numbers should be... it seemed so much harder than I remember. I hate it for him, it's hard to understand and I can't really help.

Later on, I thought back to my Alg classes and the teachers. I remember thinking the teacher was a dork and somehow thought his job was a 'Cake-Walk'. Now, I can't fathom how anybody can have a grasp of Algebra well enough to teach it, let alone teach it well.

Their understanding is absolutely foreign to me and I'll probably never comprehend how some people can understand it well enough to make it look easy.

You must have a different thought process than most people - I mean to say; people who understand mathematics easily, when compared to those who don't get it, must have a different capacity of thought. Maybe you use a much different thought process when constructing and solving problems in your mind.

I'm not really sure, but I do know I just found the excuse I'll use the next time someone notices exactly how terrible I am with math!
