It's real! There is a prototype of the original Legend of Zelda on the Famicom Disk System! You can read all about it here.

If you're a big Zelda fan like I am, this will be a treat for you. The LoZ prototype is available to download as a rom! You can actually play it with your emulator! I was so excited when I found this that I immediately downloaded and played it. I was grinning the entire time! Of course, you will need an emulator that supports Famicom games, not just NES ones, but there are many that do. I use Nestopia myself.

This rom is completely playable! Having played through it fully, I can say that with certainty. Obviously, the game is in Japanese, but if you know the NES version, you will be able to go through with no problem. And even if you don't know the NES version, you should still be able to play with little issue. It's not as though it's an overly complicated game.

Finally, because I know these questions will be asked:
There is no English translation/language patch.
You do need to "flip the disk" to start the game. Your emulator should have a key setting that will tell the file to read the "other side".
Yes, the Pols Voices are immune to arrows in the Japanese version. You will have to stab them.

Fellow Zelda fans, play and enjoy! And don't forget to share the link!
