Hello, mikeness here. I have a question about post-patch hacks.

So, you created your patch with Lunar Magic, and then you find a clean rom image. You then proceed to patch that with LUNAR IPS. I am new at rom hacks, so my question is: what is the "." extension is after you have patched the rom? Is it a .ips file, .smc file etc?

The reason I need to know this is so I can patch the file on my pc, transfer it to my jailbroken IPad 2, and run it, so I am able to play my favorite hacks such as super kaizo world.

100 Viz to best and most thought out answer. Thanks, mikeness

The file extension should stay the same as the type before patching.

Renaming the file type will most likely cause the rom to be unreadable in an emulator.

So lets say you are patching a GBA rom named fakerom.gba you need a patch named anything, for example unreasonablynamedpatch.ips, that was made using the same version of fakerom.gba as your... so you have version 1.0 fakerom.gba you need unreasonablynamedpatch.ips for version 1.0 fakerom.gba...

now open your handy patching .exe (lunar ips is what I use) it will require a clean rom of fakerom.gba, then the corresponding patch, unreasonablynamedpatch.ips once it has both of those it will ask you where you want to save it,

it will make then new patched rom named the patch name with the rom extension... so you end up with unreasonablynamedpatch.gba

hope that makes since
