I don't think there's anything wrong with this thread.  For one, he's offering help in math AND in history.  For two, he's charging for his services, whereas mine is an offer for help and a plea for helpers, on a website unaffiliated with vizzed.

For three, he's a different "teacher" than I am, to put it simply. What I mean is that one student might understand me and another might be completely confused by what I have to say.  The student then has another option: this thread.  People learn in different ways, and so there can never be enough tutors out there if they know what they're talking about.  thing1 offering to help people with math is completely separate from me offering to help people with math, as would be the case if you were to make the same offer.

I think that for now, it is okay. The school forum gets little activity, and having people offering help might do good for it. However, I think the Locals for this forum will need to make sure that we don't start getting a ton of people with help threads.

thing1 : Well, Singelli is right in that when it comes to teaching/tutoring, different approaches are a good thing. The thing that I thing needs to be monitored is that the school forum doesn't start getting tons of tutoring threads from people who's tutoring methods might be to just look at wikipedia, askyahoo, etc. If we start seeing that, we get into that grey area on who should have these. We are 'supposed' to be fair and treat all equal, but some people should not have tutoring threads, and people might see our judgement of who gets those as unfair. But this is only the second thread, so I won't worry. I don't think should be seen as a dupe. If we start getting dozens of tutor threads going on, I might request you narrow it. But don't change it unless either you want to or that time ever comes (which it might not). I have a few ideas that would be more than fair to keep tutor threads getting out of hand. The ideas I have would not affect you though.

rcarter2 : Alright then. I'll keep it how it is and I'll wait for the help tutoring requests to start kicking in.  We'll see how it turns out. Hopefully, I will be as much help to people as I hope to be.
