How do I stop been self conscious about my eye, I was born with Marcus gunn syndrome which means my eye is attached to my chewing nerve causing the eye lid to droop I have been offered surgery to correct it but it could damage my sight if it goes wrong so I don't want to risk it but I want to know how do I stop been self conscious about it because I always notice it. It is not as bad as most people with the condition but it is still bad.

ant123ant : Although I don't have the same condition you have, I was born with golden har syndrome, I know how it feels to be self conscious. I have a bad ear and a prosthetic eye on my right side of the face, a club hand with no thumb, had no thumb, and I have glasses that sometimes go down my face because of my right side. I may not have a solution, but I don't care what condition I have or how I you look, as long as I have friends beside me. Another thing, some people tend to ask me what happened to my face, but I'm used to it by now. Idk if someone's asked you what happened to your eye while it does what it does, but it ain't none of my business. My solution, from what I know, is to walk with your head held high.

freakyforrest9 : I get asked several times a day and last time I walked with my head held high I fell up the stairs slid down then hit my head on a door so I don't think I will try that again but I know what you mean. By the way I know its a figure of speech but I was making a joke out of the phrase.

I'm not the best at giving advice but I'll give it a try. Okay, You have to stop being so self conscious and in order to do so you should accept yourself. You need to accept the fact that that is the body you were born with.
We can not decide our appearances, just because you were born with this syndrome doesn't mean anything bad unless you let it mean that.  So, in that case you should start thinking it means something great! So, Think positively about yourself!!

Yeah Resuri pretty much summed up what I would have said.

We all have somethings we don't like about ourselfs (like I don't like how wide my hands can get when I stretch them to the limit, or my "velocoraptor pinky toe".)

Just try to show people that your a nice guy to be around and that they shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Good Luck with overcoming your disability!!

This is part accepting it yourself, but just as much realizing that most people probably don't care about it. Being self conscious has a lot to do with worrying about how other people view you. So this is more that you realize that for most people, they have no problem with it. Sure, they may ask out of curiosity. But once they know, they will typically just adjust to it and not even really think about it. Once you come to terms with the mindset that it really isn't even a big deal to people past a little curiosity, you can begin to not notice it too.

ant123ant : I was born with cerebral palsy and I can relate to being self cautious and or worrying about how things may appear to others. I have also had my share of eye surgeries and deal with what I believe is a form of lazy eye as the muscles in my eyes weaken and sometimes my one of my eyes may turn to the right even if I’m looking straight ahead. I’ve had people ask me from time to time why I’m looking at them when I’m not because of it. As far as being self conscious I think it gets easier as you get older. When I was younger I use to worry about what others might think or say but as I got older it became less and less important to me what other people thought. I just think it gets to a point for most people where they go look this is me, deal with it…

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I myself am a neurotic person to a big extent so I can understand where you’re coming from in regard to being self conscious but it really isn’t productive. It’s advice I should take myself sometimes frankly.

There was a time when I was ashamed and embarrassed that I was disabled. I walk slower than most people, it’s not perfect and I do sway from side to side when I walk as well. Although I freely admit that I don’t do the things I should, this is how I was made and it got to a point as I said where I really didn’t care what people thought. It took a long time for me to get to a point where I accepted that and accepted that I have certain limitations. I’m not ashamed of it anymore because I’ve come to realize this is how I was made and there is no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed about it.

Please don’t feel embarrassed. No one is perfect and we all have problems that we have to overcome at one time or another. Keep your head up.

Best of luck to you.

I don't think you look much different then anyone else! You need to find people who wont judge you for this, because its not your fault at all! I go through a similar thing, but where I am self conscious about my body. I have anorexia, but I have learned to live with it, and over come it. People would always judge me for how I looked. It really upset me and made me feel different. However, people who really care about you, wont judge you for how your eye looks. And personally to me, I barely notice any difference. Just find people who love and care about you, and you WILL stop being self conscious.

I have a similar problem with my left eye. No one really notices, especially because now I have to wear glasses. If that is all you have to be self-conscious about, then there is really nothing to worry about.

Your unique just like everyone else, everyone has their differences - some more weird than others but who cares really. Just accept who you are "warts and farts and all." Look within yourself for things that you do like about you.
