Hmm...I would probably have to say Zoro from One-Piece.  I remember one episode I was watching (The Japanese anime version with English subtitles) he was battling the most powerful swordsman in the world. Zoro turned his back on him while fighting. Zoro noticed this, and immediately took shame to this. He then opened up his arms and spread his legs, and put his head down, to let this swordsman take a nice clean slice at his chest. As this happened, Zoro fell down, and began to break down in tears, but not from the pain. You see, his dream was to be the best swordsman. Not just for himself, but because someone he loved. This person he loved was a girl he knew as a child. Her goal was to be the best swords person she could be, however her dream came crashing down on her as she fell down stairs and died from hitting her head. Zoro took up this oath, and began training harder every day. To me, I think his past is incredibly painful.

He has a point Goku is probably the strongest anime/manga character out there. He could destroy an entire planet easily, heck he could probably pick up an entire planet.

Just to throw a grenade out there Hayato Fûrinji from history's strongest disciple kenchi. I mean sure he's not goku destroying planets with ki blasts or just powering up for that matter. He does however have a signature attack called "human shuriken" where he throws the enemy he is currently fighting like a shuriken and does impressive siege damage. I would argue this guy is at least stronger then krillian.

Though I haven't watched it yet, from what I've seen Kenshiro is pretty much the strongest there is, Nya~.

This is purely on physical strength though. If I were to choose the strongest based on skill, then I'd honestly have to think for a bit longer.

I would have to say the strongest I know is Simon from Gurren Lagann, But that is only if giant robot's count, If weapons count I would have to go with Golgo 13, And if it is pure raw strength, I would say out of what I've seen Kenichi's master (I forgot his name) Would have to be the strongest. Well considering he cannot be killed by anything and he can kill pretty much anyone, I'm gonna go with Alucard from Hellsing: Ultimate. Even erasing him from existence couldn't keep him gone.

I'd say Ichigo from Bleach is a pretty strong guy, and he's like Goku in some ways.
He spends a lot of his time dead, he gets stronger after every battle, he beats unbeatable foes with sheer stubbornness alone.
But unlike Goku he doesn't take 20 episodes to beat an enemy and he has an awesome sword so that alone makes him 10 times better

If we're talking straight up strength, and not who's most likely to win in a battle, I'd have to agree with you on Goku.

Well, honestly, I am going to have to say Naruto from Naruto Shippiden. He has so much guts, and he has determination, do that is what makes him so strong.

I would say nine tailed fox naruto as well especially the golden fox he is so beast it looks weak but don't underestimate looks.

It seems as if the majority of users believe that Goku is the strongest. However, I'm gonna have to disagree. In a straight-up fight, I would have to say that the strongest person I know is without a doubt Tenchi Masaki from Tenchi Muyo. In his final form he is omnipresent, omniscient, his strength is immeasurable, and he can take out the multiverse with one hit. I'm thinking that's pretty powerful. He's also pretty much immortal as far as I remember. That's if we're talking about pure power strength. If we're talking about mental strength such as determination and will power, I'd have to go with either Naruto or Rock Lee. Naruto always works his hardest at what he believes in. He gives 200% with everything he does. Rock Lee is the exact same way and it can be argued that he even works harder than Naruto. He even went so far as to train when he had wounds that made it seem as if he could never be a ninja again. That is real determination. Tenchi would still win in a fight though.
