Ok... I am playing Pokémon Crystal, and i am using the first
from the left emulator. Anyways I got to Mahogany town and managed to beat the
gym. The walkthrough said that Professor Elm is supposed to contact me on
leaving the gym but when i leave no one did... Did my game just screw up or something
or is there waiting I need to do?

After you beat Mahogany Gym, go to the house with 2 people inside. But first, if you haven't, go to Lake of Rage, nor the of Mahogany. After LOR, go in that house and Lance should be there saying,"Dragonite, use Hyper Beam!". Go down the new stairs. Complete the Rocket Base, and get out. Elm should either call you, or head back to New Bark Town, and talk to him. After that, go back to Mahogany and go east to the Ice Path. After the Ice Path, you will be in Blackthorn Ciy, which houses the 8th and final Gym! After Beating Claire, go to the Dragon's Den, which is north of the gym. Complete that, and you will come across a house  with old men inside. Awnser the old man in the far end of the house's questions. After words, Claire will come in and be astounded that you passed. You then leave, and Claire will give you her TM. Head back in the house, talk to the same old man, and you get a Dratini if you awnserd all of the questions with good Pokémon raising awnsers. After that, go to Elm's Lab. Get the Master ball, and surf east to Kanto. Go through Tohjo Falls, and go to the Pokémon League. Go through Victory Road, and defeat the Elite Four, including Lance. Now defeat the Kanto Gym leaders, and then scale Mt. Silver, and defeat the strongest trainer in Johto and Kanto, Red!

Did you catch the Red Gyarados? If you didn't, Professor Elm would not call you. I'm not sure if I'm right though, but try resetting your game and catch Red Gyarados this time.
