Just tell me your thoughts. There are plenty of great, has-been games like Earthbound, and don't get me wrong, I love both Earthbound/Mother and FF, just wanted to hear some of your thoughts.

Other than the great amount of glitches and bugs in Final Fantasy I, I think it has aged fine. It is just that most of the music tracks in my opinion are not that memorable and that I hate how Astos (I think that is what he is called) has a high chance of killing a party member as I like having equal experience point gains.

huntert : Yeah, I played it last night, and see no reason for it not to stand up to other NES gems. You were right about the music though. After playing Chrono Trigger I was humming the tunes all the time, Final Fantasy did not have the same effect, but is overall pretty fun and challenging, I've never really been into RPG's but I think I'll start playing the avidly now.

I think it has but the gameplay feels aged and the difficulty is quite spiked considering what we're used to today.

taterii : Since you said, have you noticed the miss rate is upwards of like 70%? It's ridiculous! That's probably the most frustrating part of the game.

Personally I think it's aged somewhat badly. Sure someone from the NES era could pick it up and understand the intricacies of how to deal with those low quality menu options but I kid you not it took me 2 hours to realize I had to individually equip each piece of armor and the weapons after I bought them and the whole time I had been slaying goblins with my fists wondering why I was so weak. I got too used to playing the Dawn of Souls remake I guess.

Also yes, if the first hit misses then there is a high chance that all other hits on that monster will miss was pretty bad considering my luck with critical moments during RPG games.

Belinni : Thanks for the info about missing, and I was able to easily navigate the menus and buy weapons and armors, but I think that may be because you are used to a different layout of RPG, but this was one of my first experiences with one.

I think that it aged horribly. The gameplay is slow and buggy, there's no auto-targeting system in case the whole party is aiming at one enemy and that enemy dies, but the music and graphics are acceptable for NES.

reaca : Actually, if multiple people are targeting one monster, and that monster dies, those extra players will target the closest monster to that. But yeah, the music was strange and bland.

TrollStoneProduction : If an enemy that all of your party targeted died before the rest of your guys attacked, you'll just attack thin air in the original Final Fantasy. I'm pretty sure that they fixed the problem in the 3rd game, though.

Back in the bad old eighties if you got a game and it made any kinda sense, you were lucky to have it. Especially if it asked you for more use of brains than Pac-man.

I mean all the games were buggy, harder than life itself and there were no achivemts unlocked if you took a few steps and no website to cry about if you felt the game was too hard, bad, soft, short or whatever. You were lucky if you even had a NES. Or a device you could game in the first place. And I seriously doubt many people back in those days sent letters to Japan saying: "your game is too damn hard and it was also very badly translated to english. FIX PLZ!"

But we the kids still played those games till our fingers were bleeding.

I believe it has not aged well. I love the Final Fantasy series as my name suggests. I do feel that a few things set this game back in regards to playing it in 2013.

My first point is that the game isn't terribly difficult, however, the difficulty is very lop-sided. Most gamers can deal with growing frustration in a game due to enemies or boards getting harder as you go. It's another thing entirely to start off having to work decently hard just to makes things fair.
Secondly the game is just slow. I am an old school guy, and an RPG fanatic at that.  Shadow(my Black Mage) uses fire 2.....attacks ghost... takes off 32... ghost terminated.... fire 2... attacks ghost.... takes of 34...  ghost terminated...fire 2... attacks ghost... takes of 29... ghost terminated.  I mean, what if their is 9 enemies? It takes a long time.
Last point is the equipment menu. When I was a young nerdling I could never end up with what I actually wanted. I would drop something to get a new chest just to have it be... cloth. So yeah, an empty slot for rotating a 5th piece of equipment would make things easier.

Some people may disagree but whenever I replay this game, I play Final Fantasy Origins on PlayStation 1. It fixes most of my gripes with it.
