What's funny about the N64 is that there was no actual Pokémon RPGS on it, there was Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2. Pokémon Stadium is a one of a kind fighter. I actually thought this would be a one on one fighter like Street Fighter. Instead the battles in this game are turn based like in the RPGS. In my Pokémon Blue review, I mentioned how annoying the battles were and how much patience I had to have before I actually enjoyed them. The battles from the original Gameboy games are what you are dealing with.

GAMEPLAY B-: The game is actually quite enjoyable. I got pretty absorbed in the battles. The attacks each have a purpose and I actually have to choose my Pokémon wisely (which is something I am quite bad at.) Unfortunately  the control scheme is confusing at first. Don't you think its a little ridiculous to hold 2 buttons to go to the attack screen. The game can also get a little repetitive. In general this game is fun.

GRAPHICS C+: The Pokémon in this game look great. They look like they came right from a Gamecube game. The 3D models are the best looking parts of the game. The rest of the game looks pretty flat and dull. The stadiums look boring and dull. Plus the menus look crappy. If you think I'm nitpicking then I understand, but you got to admit those stadiums look boring.

SOUND D+: I never understood why the game sounds so mediocre. The announcer sounds muffled, which is pathetic for a late N64 game. The music is okay though, for the most part the sound is lousy, but it's not terrible.

ADDICTIVNESS A-: I found my self playing this game longer then I intended. The battles are pretty fun, and the variety of challengers really makes you want to play longer.

DEPTH A-: There are 4 stadiums to choose from and plenty of Pokémon, plus unlockables. One neat feature I found in this game, is the ability to transfer Pokémon from the Gameboy to the game. If you don't have a Gameboy and any Pokémon game on it. Then you can have a "rental" Pokémon. They are all leveled pretty closely to each other. There's still quite a bit of variety in the amount of Pokémon.

DIFFICULTY MEDIUM: The game seemed pretty easy to me, but after a few challengers I had trouble. As you go through the game the Pokémon get harder to fight, and you have to be more careful about what Pokémon you pick. This games difficulty is just right for anybody.

OVERALL RATING B
