 The Holy Grail. 22 seconds!!! 
 

 First of all I didn't just sit down and do this in one try, It took me over 6 hours of failed attempts and a lot of headaches, but I did it! I HOLD THE WORLD RECORD!

 Thought I would summon you to see my hard, but fruitful works.  
 
 How I did it: 
 
 First I had to charge a spin dash at the first frame that you can see knuckles duck and mash the three buttons 8 times exactly for a max blast off. After I took of at lightning speed and crossed the bridge, I hit the crab and jumped into the other crab and jumped again with a low jump to hit both piranahs and land on the bridge, after I landed I jumped again and ran up the slope and hoped up to the ledge and did another hop to land below. I jumped again and tapped A in the air so I would land at the lamp post and be able to charge another max spin dash. After I went through the loop-de-loo I jumped at the bottom and vaulted over the rock to carry on at max speed. I jumped again over the rock and then over the crab and tapped A to land and charge yet another spin dash to carry me to the goal at max speed. And THAT is how I got 22 seconds at green hill Zone act 1. Thank you. *Takes a bow* (;

Edit - I don't buy it yet by the way. I'm well aware there's a debug mode in the game.

 Sorry I failed to summon you guys

This is a vizzed world record, although TAS can beat everything. Nice job on the run w/knuckles. I have 0:25 on the original sonic 1, but I can get a sonic rom or hack for the Gens emulator and TAS it as good as I can.

Congrats, and I can't imagine a Tails WR (That could take days non-stop!)

Stevie 764 : I don't think you could beat it non TAS, This run is very tight! And you can only get 24 seconds as sonic in the original game because of the absence of the spin dash.

legacyme3 : If he used debug mode, the score would be broken and showing hex values, and I think the time would also be broken. Take it from someone who's seen debug mode many a time in the Sonic games.

I'm not trying to discredit anything, so I'm sorry if it comes off as that. But how does this youtube video verify that it was a world record? It doesn't even claim to be a world record. At most, this can just be considered the fastest time someone submitted to youtube (although I couldn't find any other speed runs using this hack).

rcarter2 : I looked and looked and this is the fastest time that I could find other then my record, so I am just calling my time the current world record. I VERY seriously doubt that it cold be beat, like 99.9% sure. I just found a video with the fastest time I could find. ( I know he does not claim it to be the world record, but it's the best in the world, so best in the world = world record. )

Good job! I saw you do 23 seconds, but I wasn't sure that you could do 22, I am impressed!
You thinking about setting a speedrun for the whole game? Marble Zone would certainly be painless.
