The newest Windows7 is the RC. It comes out to the public on May 5th. You can download it(after it comes out) on Microsoft's site.
Unfourtunatly, if you're using Win7 beta(like I am), you won't be able to upgrade to RC. Microsoft doesn't recommend it. You'll have to hack some files if you wanna upgrade from Win7 beta to Win7 RC...

Anyway, Windows7 is getting closer and closer to the release date. This may just be your last chance to get Windows7 before it comes out!

The full version won't be free.

When I get my new laptop, I'll definitely be saving up money to buy Windows7.

There might not be too long a wait for the full release after this.
A release date has been leaked by ACER computers European branch hinting strongly at a October 23rd release.
The definativeness of this date has sources like ZDNet convinced of its validity.
So start saving everyone.

Windows Vista is horrible, trust me. I have to deal with its shenanigans everyday.

But I am definitely going to get Windows7 when it comes out.

Vista SP1 isn't that bad. It does have a habit of slight spam though.

It likes to spam, 'NEW UPDATES NAO' and when I click the update manager:

'There are no new updates. We'll remind you when there are.'

It doesn't do that to me. It just keeps saying "Your computer is at risk" saying that I don't have a Firewall or Antimalware when TrendMicro is on(I'm using TrendMicro pro so it's all in one). It gets annoying. Besides it's spamming habits, Vista is a good OS.

wow it never spams me except if defender hasnt run a scan or an update.
but that might be because i TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS
well that and i turn off auto update cause i decide when to update, not the pc.
anyways, the RC should be out now to technet subscribers and out to everyone else soon.

Eh, that's how I felt in the beginning, too. But when you look under the hood, it's an overly-graphic-intensive mess. The menus themselves lag when loading the designs after a while. Trust me, you'll see it.

Yeah, the default Vista Aero is a hog. Vista Basic is a moderate hog. Not near as bad as V.Aero though.

I'm going to be trying out Windows7 today. *crosses fingers* hope it's awesome!

I got a few comments to throw into the ring.

My vista is running 1.3gb of memory (including apps running). A fresh install of Win7 RC runs at about 600mb. Yay!

From a MVP I know, he says win7 will be alot more nicer for computers.
As for people who say vista is laggy, im sorry, upgrade your computer. Its like saying my machine that run win98 struggles with xp.. yes.. UPGRADE!

Im running 4gb RAM (well.. 3.. because im not running 64bit), and a 1.8ghz dual core, that coupled with my 3850HD gfx card, vista runs smooth (even before tweaking). Vista Aero is nothing to a computer if you have good gfx card to back it up.

Vista SP1 was nice.. If you know people who are in the know, you will already have Vista SP2 . Dont really notice the difference, but theres apparently alot of fixes under the hood.


These RC copys of win7 are valid until 1st March 2010, after that they will restart every 2 hours .


Please turn off all notifications, UAC, and take ownership of your C: drive. Its a GREAT idea to have them there... but there more of a hassle than a help.



Dont EVER EVER use any form of OS upgrade methods. Remember the reasons why OS's crash, because software is not fully compatable, and they install there DLL's then things go bloaty.. ect ect. Do a fresh install. Go get an external HDD, or a new interneal one (Can get a 1TB internal HDD for AU$140 + SATA to USB casing thingy for AU$25, giving you an 1gb external HDD for AU$165).


And finaly, just repeating. To all you vista haters. Im sorry, your computer sucks. Upgrade or stop complaining.

I don't think the majority of us complain because it lags, I think the majority of us just complains because it uses an unacceptable amount of performance. Sure, I can use it, but it's still a stupid graphics/RAM hog.

Vista really is a RAM hog... takes 1 gig of RAM to run it, and I only have 1 gig of RAM on my computer... Can anyone say LAG??

You tried using Windows Standard or Windows Classic? That may lower RAM usage.
