Okay, I've been hesitant to ask because I'm afraid of looking like a complete dunce, but I really do want to know:  what is Netplay?

I remember reading a few things about it but now I can't seem to find those statements anywhere.

Here's what I do know:  Netplay allows you to play games with other players.

Here's what I DON'T know/understand:
Can you play any games with other people, or just games that would normally allow you to play together?  For example, Pokemon games for battling, Racing games, and Fighting games.

I know you have to have certain items/permissions to start a session, but how do you join one?  How long does it take for one to be created?  Is there an area to post requests for people to join a netplay session?

Yeah, just tell me everything you can in the simplest terms.  I'm not the brightest when it comes to video games or technology.

Hopefully I can clear up your confusions.

For your first question about which games can you play. You can only play multiplayer with games that originally supported it. If you can play 2+ player mode on the game originally, you can play it on Netplay. If it was a 1 player game, you cannot play it with someone else.

I will note this because you mentioned Pokemon for battling. Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advanced, and Game Gear do NOT work on Netplay. The reason is this. Other consoles play 2+ players simply by plugging in another controller into the console. The portable consoles played multiplayer by linking up the devices via connection cables. It turns out that coding for this on an emulator proved too difficult to accomplish.

To join a session, when you are in the RGR, you will notice a link next to "Your Game Profile" that says "Netplay". That will take you to the Netplay screen where you can chat in the Netplay room where you can see all of the Netplay games currently open and joinable. Simply click on ones you wish to join.

To create one, you must have the item or be Trusted Member or higher. To make a session, go to the page of the game you want to play. You will see a tab that says "Create a Netplay session". When you click it, it will open a screen where you can set the specifications of the session (server location, number of players, number of observers, etc). Once you click the "Create Session" button, it will immediately make the session. This process takes only a few seconds.

As for your question about a place to post requests, there are 2 options. While in the Netplay room, you will notice it also opens the chat window. You can talk to people there to get a game set up.

Your other option is to go to a thread that I have created:

Just make sure you read the rules listed on my first post to keep that thread as easy for me to sort through as possible.

Thanks for this information!  It's VERY useful.  I did think about the fact that some games only need another controller, while others required a link up, but I didn't know it'd cause differences in the coding/ hacking/ whatever you want to call it.

It sounds like a lot of fun, honestly, if only I had the time to play them, people interested in the same games as I am, and the times to match up with those people. XD

Maybe I'll look into it this weekend when my math competition is over.

Thanks again!
