Anyway, to answer the question... I assume you mean tier lists for like fighting games? If so, they have their uses to get a general idea of character who have more beneficial match-ups than others... but if you take them too literally, they become detrimental. In most games, it's not really so black-and-white as certain characters being universally better than others. That only happens when the game was made extremely imbalanced.
