What is your favorite genre for gaming? I didn't notice one of these around which really seemed odd to me... Ah well, my favorite genre has to be Strategy / Simulation. I say this because my favorite PC games in general are the Sims and the Tycoon games. After those two genres, I'd pick Time Management. (A little friendly competition between me and the clock is relaxing once in awhile.)

My favorite genre of games are the actions ones such as Conker's bad fur day. That game is so awesome and if you are looking for some action thats the game you should play as long as you are mature according to it.

My favorite genre is RPG... a close second would be fighting games... but I can only get into certain ones. I've enjoyed way more RPGs over the years.

mr.keys :

Action games are fun for me but only to an extent... I'm having issues trying to figure out an action game that I actually like to play regularly. x.x

Crazy Li :

Ah, yes. The RPG genre. I love roleplaying games. (Though, I don't much care for Elder Scrolls.) My favorite RPG is, I think, STO. Fighting I've never been able to get into myself.

Ktanaqui : I mostly play JRPGs when I play them... haven't gotten to that many Western series yet. I love stuff like Tales, Star Ocean, and Persona.

What does the "J" in JRPGs stand for? I've never heard of any of those games either, except maybe Persona. I think I might have seen in on Steam, not sure though. Never really differentiated according to time period/location either.

J stands for Japanese. RPGs made in Japan have a distinctly different style from those made in North America. They use different formulas and whatnot... though Western developers are beginning to take things from Japanese developers and blend with their own style to make some really awesome-looking games.

Oh! Got it. Yeah, I do not believe that I've actually had the opportunity to try any Japanese RPGs. Since, well... I can't read Japanese, write, or speak it either... yea. Haven't gotten into other language stuff because of that.

I don't play them IN Japanese...

Have you not ever played something like Final Fantasy? Or Dragon Quest.

Games like that are developed by Japanese companies. They're still in English because someone translates them to release in English-speaking countries.

Oh! Alright. No, I've never played Final Fantasy. I didn't realize that that's what it was; I picked up a copy once but it didn't work and I never got another copy. I played FF Tactics though. I don't think that counts. But I have played Dragon Quest. XIII, I think. A crazy amount of fun.

I'm assuming then, that you play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops, or Battlefield 3? Or a mix of any of those three. And that you possibly have Black Ops 2 on pre-order.

Ktanaqui : Final Fantasy Tactics! That game was really good. That's more of a SRPG (strategy RPG) but it still counts as a RPG in some sense. I'm sure most people have played more Japanese games than they realize. I mean, Mario and Sonic are Japanese games... so is Zelda.

Let's see... I've played Super Mario 64. That's basically it for the Mario series. And I've played quite a few of the Sonic games - Sonic 1, 2, 3, 4, Sonic Spinball, Sonic Generations, Sonic Unleashed... I like Sonic 2 the best. Spinball is fun though. I have never played anything Legend of Zelda though, unless you count the "Training" game on the Wii. And I love games like Tactics. The new Pokemon Conquest is crazy fun too.

Ktanaqui : If you're into Strategy RPGs, I recommend giving Disgaea a shot or any game made by Nippon Ichi Software. Or Tactics Ogre's another good one. There's one for the PS1 and one for the GBA that I know. You can most likely find the GBA one in the RGR.

Ktanaqui : No those are first person shooter games. They don't involved you to work together with the computers. Those game are just shoot enemies and complete the objectives. The game I play really involved a lot of strategic thinking. Like to either let your team fire enemies on site or let them stand down or let them follow you or make them stay put. I like those type of games, but I only see most of them on the old system like the gamecube, first xbox, and the playstation 2.

Oh! Alright - could you possibly provide examples of what you're referring to? I think the ground missions on STO qualify for what you're talking about but I'm not positive. XD

Ktanaqui : Nippon Ichi games are awesome for their uniqueness. They're very funny games too. Usually they have very entertaining and whacky characters and unconventional mechanics. Really fun stuff. I've played everything they've made so far.
