yeah, I think this new generation got screwed over with the star wars prequel trilogy.... it'll be nice to see a new set of Star Trek movies that are actually worth watching. Well, it's not that I hated the Star Wars prequels.... the fight scenes were awesome.... the acting was terrible.
I'm excited though. I'll be seeing this with whoever will go with me.

oh yeah! This is one of those movies that is totally worth an Imax visit. Mine is pretty far away from where I live so going to see a movie on Imax is a big deal. I doubt my wife will want to go to this though so I guess I've got to find a man date for this movie

Yeah, one of the local theaters upgraded to include an Imax screen a few months ago so I was super happy about it. Before that I would have had to drive an hour or so to Irvine for it, and it just wasn't worth it. Honestly, this will be the first actual movie I've seen in Imax. First and only time I've ever been was on a school field trip when they first opened to see Gorillas in the Mist. I think I was about 8 then... so yeah, this is a big deal for me.
Good luck on your man date, though I am sure you can get at least one buddy to go see it with you. We're trying to get a group of our friends together to come see it with us as well, but we shall have to see how it goes.

im actually dreading this.

first, enterprise wasnt a remake or direct prequel (ie wasnt about existing characters but was a new addition), it was a spin off series.
second, i think it could have been better (especially the last season) third, im a scott bakula fan so i liked it probally more then i would have cause he was in it. and lastly, i dont beleive that just cause the original cast is supporting it means anything, since money talks and actors listen to it

I'm totally seeing this in the theatre.... it seems like one of those movies that just needs the big screen to really be worth watching. I can't imagine some of the action scenes would be very good on my computer screen.
And I do agree that there have been a fair number of remakes of movies that were a letdown.... but I also think we have overhyped some of the originals too much.

See, that is the think though, it isn't a remake and people keep saying it is. Prequel, yes, remake, no. And while Episodes 1-3 left me wary of prequels this actually looks like it will be good.
But yeah, I will be seeing it in less than 9 hours, so we shall see how it turns out.

well i didnt think it was a remake, i understood its a prequel.

Well, I will give my opinions now.
I liked the movie. I thought that the cast did a good job in portraying the characters, particularly Zachary Quinto as Spock. However, I do see the movie as easy to make fun of because of the stereotype action scenes... and Sulu with a sword. While I did feel that the alternate reality thing was a cheap way out I did find the storyline interesting but... And what is with all of the alien races that I never saw in the series'? I swear the one in the beginning looked like it was from Star Wars. But yeah, despite my criticisms I did enjoy the movie. I am curious as to which books you are referring to, so please see if you can find them.

You do realize that this movie will make Star Trek a popular mainstream franchise? It'll be LOVED by people other than previous enthusiasts!  Star Trek is now not considered geeky! (loved it back then anyway, but at least now people can see the awesomeness that is ST)

Well, it might still be canon, but I am not sure... depends on those books. Please see spoiler.
Spoiler:
Romulus gets destroyed by a sun going supernova 129 years in the future from the time the movie is set it. A Romulan mining ship nearby is sent through a resulting black hole back in time. The captain, Nero, blames Ambassador Spock for the loss of Romulus because he didn't get there in time to save it so he goes on a vengence trip. His actions alter the course of history... killing Kirk's dad the day on the day that he was born, resulting in various ripple effects that cause subtle changes. A lot of the movie revolves around this, and that is all I will say other than there are two Spocks because the Ambassador Spock also got sent through the black hole. Oh, and trust me, Star Trek is still geeky and always will be. Just like Star Wars will always be geeky... it will just gain some more regular fans.

Saw it. Loved it! Your spoiler doesn't really give away too much, although if you haven't seen the movie I don't recommend reading it yet.
I'm sure there will be some fans that will find problems with it.... but here's the thing.... nothing has to be the same because of what happens in the movie. The official Star Trek storyline can now be redone to suit the new generation. I'm really looking forward to a couple more of those too. They could be pretty awesome movies.

Okay, so I just watched the original Star Trek movie... and holy crap was it ever boring!
I don't know how people could stand to sit through that movie. I watched it on my computer so I could do other things while watching it. I mean come on... how many shots of the energy cloud thingy do we need? And you don't need to show the real time travel into it either.... there was just so much time wasted on nothing... just music and the shot shifting from crew members to the outside and then back to the crew.... maybe a line of dialogue or 2 and then more outside shots.... I mean, the movie wasn't terrible... I was interested in finding out what was inside the ship doing everything... but it just took so long to find that out. It was aggravating.
