I have been thinking a lot about Resident Evil and I would think that everyone would call Resident Evil a zombie game, but I don't think it is entirely a zombie game since it is people that are infected with the t virus. In Resident Evil, there are some that can turn into monsters and some can actually use weapons. I wouldn't think actual zombies could do that. What do you think?

If Resident Evil is not a zombie game, then the Zombie genre is even worse than it already was.

Resident Evil is one of the few zombie games that don't suck.

It was a zombie game before all the crappy ones came in and ruined the genre.

I was a fan of the first Resident Evil, but after discovery of what was going on, the series kind of went downhill for me. What made it so enthralling was the fact that you were a few ragtag cops in an undisclosed mansion full of who knows what lurking around every corner, and to make it worse, you had lost all communication with the outside world. There is just something about the suspense of a survival game, especially if you have no idea where you are or what is going on, that makes it exciting. As the series progressed, or should I say digressed, they added more and more complexity into the mix to keep it interesting, but ended up making it ridiculously over-the-top.

Getting back to the question at hand, I think any being that is undead or has lost what makes it unique can be considered a zombie, although in a different sense. You could be an undead zombie, or a zombie of the laws of a government, or maybe even an undead government-abiding zombie. Considering that most zombies still have motor-skills (and to some extent, a brain), it would be safe to assume that zombies could indeed mutate or evolve into something entirely different, and possibly even adapt to using tools. So, I do believe it possible that they could do these things and still be considered zombies.

But just remember, zombie-like or not, if it wants to eat your brains, I think it's safe to say you should kill it.

Well, by those standards, 75% of zombie movies are not zombie movies because it seems most of them say it is a virus that reanimates the corpse. I think that just because they are using a virus to do it instead of some supernatural phenomenon making them undead does not mean they aren't zombies. Now, Resident Evil 4 and 5 are NOT zombies. They are people who have a single parasitic organism that takes over their mind and body. Those things are actually organized life forms. They are more like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" type of thing. Although, Resident Evil 6 is doing away with the Las Plagas and going back to a zombie virus, which I am happy about.

I would have to say that 0,1,2 and 3 are really good Resident Evil games that had zombies in them ( my opinion ). Ever since Resident Evil 4 came out the series has not had zombies in them for a while and the games have been less scary. I miss how back in the day there were zombies would hide in dark places and scare the crap out of you when you lease expected it. You don't get that same feeling in Resident Evil games today. But I'm glad zombies are back in the up coming game, Resident Evil 6. I still play and enjoy these games though.

I haven't seen any played since like, the 4th, but I believe in the 4th on they're living people infected by a parasite, like Rcarter said. Beyond that I don't know about the newer ones, haha. But, the T-virus in the first 3 for all intents and purposes kills you, then reanimates your cells in a way that brings you back to life in the very most basic fashion. That's a zombie in my description. They're not alive in the sense that most of their functions and tissues are dead, however their body moves for the sole purpose of consuming, so it's basically just a walking instinct.

I really should catch on the series, but from what little I know about it, they really deviated from the roots. Not always a bad thing, of course, but it makes me a little less anxious to jump back in.

yes, zombies in my book are people whos brain is hijacked by a foreign virus. The fact the host may not be dead dosent really matter.
legacyme3 : i cant think of many zombie games on this gen of console, but the 2 i can think off, dead island and dead rising 2 are amasing. Dead island being dark and creepy, dead rising 2 being comical and entertaining.
Both games are much better on co op too

Resident Evil Revelations is a big example of not a zombie game, but its still fun.

I think that the RE zombies are zombies. People may read into the definition of zombies too much and say that they are just infected humans, but then again..isn't that what zombies are? They're just more varied in RE in my opinion. Zombies are zombies. It's just the truth.
