Hi,

I'm thinking about buying the Nexus 7. Does anyone have one? I can't find one in stores, so I haven't been able to try them out. Salespeople at stores seem to range from helpful (but uninformed) to the moron I met at Best buy who tried to tell me that Samsung Galaxy and Nexus 7 were the same -- because they were both tablets...

Anyway...

Does the Nexus 7 have a true personal assistant program, or does it just have voice-run searching for simple web-searches?

Does the Nexus 7 have the option for an SD card, or is it true that there's absolutely no way to increase memory?

Does the touch screen have issues (won't unlock, uneven sensitivity)?

Does the Nexus 7 have Jellybean? Or is it still using Ice Cream Sandwich (seriously, wtf is up with these names?).

Lastly, did you buy the 8GB or 16GB option? Why?

I don't know if you'll get any answers on this site from anyone who actually has this device, but I've been reading up on it so I'll answer some of your questions to the best of my ability.

Does the Nexus 7 have a true personal assistant program, or does it just have voice-run searching for simple web-searches?

Kind of. It's not as polished as Siri, but it can do things like opening some apps for you I think. But as of right now it's more of a web search feature.

Does the Nexus 7 have the option for an SD card, or is it true that there's absolutely no way to increase memory?

It has no SD card slot, so you may as well pay the extra $50 for the 16 GB version.

Does the touch screen have issues (won't unlock, uneven sensitivity)?

This depends on who you ask, so I won't answer this, but from what I've read, the majority say it doesn't.

Does the Nexus 7 have Jellybean? Or is it still using Ice Cream Sandwich (seriously, wtf is up with these names?).

The Nexus 7 ships with Android Jelly Bean.

Lazlo has most of this covered, but I just wanted to make some additional notes.

There may be a personal assistant app you can download to perform that sort of function though. All programs should accept the voice recognition. The only kind of "assistance" the tablet can perform on its own is that the Google search tries to adapt itself to the user and personalize based on your internet activity... but that's something that Google search seems to do on any machine. It's just the Nexus has a special version that is a little more tablet-focused is all.

While there is no SD card, it does have a micro USB slot. If you can find an external storage device that connects via micro USB, you can expand the memory in that fashion. Not the best solution, but better than nothing, I guess. The 16GB version should be more than enough space for most uses. You'd only run into trouble if you wanted to use it as a media center or something. It's kind of ugly, but you'd probably need to get a flash/thumb drive and a USB-to-microUSB converter in order to actually make it work.

The touch screen is actually incredibly responsive. Part of this is because its Operating System, Jellybean, was specifically designed for it. The Nexus 7 was the first tablet to ever feature it. Jellybean can utilize a lot of advanced new features to enable a smoother performance (like triple buffering).

I hope that helps!
