I just upgraded from WinVista to Win7. I upgraded to the lowest build of Win7 lol. Anyways, I noticed a few programs working on Win7 that aren't made for Win7.

A few of these programs are:

Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Rocketdock
Picasa
Yahoo Messenger

In order to get this benefit you must:
A.) Get Win7 onto a DVD
B.) Put in the Win7 DVD while running XP/Vista
C.) Start the installation
D.) Click "Upgrade"

Then, when Win7 is done installing, you'll have programs made for XP/Vista working on 7. Not all programs work like this.

it's still windows.... it's not like you downloaded the windows versions of these programs and tried to install them on a linux or mac machine.

Geoogree gets it right. All new Windows versions should technically be able to sue old programs, the ones that don't are the exception, not the working ones.

This thread would be much better if it was about the programs that don't work.And if you were using the latest build, because now it is rather useless.

But whatever, I'll leave it open and see if anyone is interested.

I actually think it's a good thing that it is backwards compatible, at least with some programs.... that means that the changes they made aren't so drastic as to change windows completely.

One of the thing that bug me the most is not being able to play some older games from the mid-late 90's because XP or Vista just won't run them anymore. Although some of you guys were born when those games came out and probably haven't played them or care about playing them

This was the main reason for my XP hate when it just came out. But then again, there's workarounds for most games out nowadays. But it was so annoying when it first came out.

yeah, I've managed to get most games working but sometimes it required so much effort that by the time you got the game running well enough to play you didn't have time to play it anymore.

There are still games that I want to play that I would require me to go back on graphics drivers about 3 years to get rid of some "fix" they put in that made some older games not work on my card anymore. My card isn't very nice so it's not a surprise that this happened but it's just not worth the effort of changing the drivers every time I want to play the game.

Geeo: I know what you mean. I can't play some PC games I played in my early childhood(can't say childhood because I'm still a child, even if i'm about to be a teen). Games like Duke Nukem, Commander Keen, etc. It really sucks
