So what do you shmup fans think of Raiden (arcade)/Raiden Trad (Genesis, SNES)? Most shmup fans will know the game, but it's a simple, formulaic vertical shooter that draws heavily on the style of earlier games like Twin Cobra. It doesn't innovate much at all, but it's always been one of my favorite shooters.

In my opinion it perfected the feel of an early shooter, even if it didn't innovate. Instead of reinventing the wheel, making a better one. So, do you think Raiden is a perfection of the early shmup formula, or is it a forgettable and inferior copy of Twin Cobra/similar games?
