Every time I save the game in ocarina of time, and come back later, I start back in my tree house at the beginning instead where I saved. I still have the same amount of  progress, just a different location. Is this normal?

I beat the game more times than either of us could count. You always restart at a specific spot. If you're in a dungeon, you start at the entrance to that dungeon. Otherwise you either start at your tree house or the Temple of Time depending on how far into the game you are.

You don't have any control and you can't skip ahead to the Temple of Time spawn point so it's not worth looking up. You'll just spoil the story for yourself.
