Behold the joyous laughing man
And all the world his stage
Their eyes are fixed and gaze in awe
At his brightly-colored hair and rainbow-clad garb
The children all stand quietly, frozen in excitement
As he attempts to amuse with his trinkets and baubles
They all see what they want to see
Nothing less, and nothing more
Staring at the shadow of a man intended to illude
Unaware of the one who wears the painted visage.

His daughter died the other day.

What a shame that it truly was
Such a beautiful, innocent little life
"Daddy, don't cry," she murmured
With lights and noise blaring as she drew her final breath
His warm tears spattered the pavement as he held her
The broken, lifeless body of that which was his everything.

Now there is nothing but torment and pain.

The will to persevere drained from his being
He attempts to gather the shattered remnants of his future
Emotionless, he presents himself to the crowd.
