I'm not sure if this debate has been had yet on vizzed.... it might have a long time ago but there are new movies out... more possibilities to choose from.



So the question is: Are there any sequels that are better than the original?

I thought species 2 was better than the first. But that's the only one I can think of

Transporter 2 > Transporter 1.
AVP2 > AVP
Saw 4 > Saw 3 > Saw 2 > Saw 1

Sorry, I don't really watch a lot of movies with sequels XD

However, I do know a lot of games that had better sequels than originals

The Dark Knight was the best batman movie.
Star Wars III was better than I and II (even though 4,5 and 6 were better than the new ones)

SW3 is technically a prequel... although if the movies were made in the correct order it would be a sequel. But I do agree it is much better than 1 and 2.

Ice: I can agree with Transporter 2 being better but the other ones I'm not so sure. I didn't like AVP2 more than 1. There just was something that I didn't like. I might have to rewatch them. And the Saw movies are just brutal. I can't sit through them anymore so I can't agree with you on those.

And Friday the 13th won't be a sequel... it's a remake so it doesn't count either

And, about star wars, IV was boring as hell (took me like 6 years to watch it, id always fall asleep)

huh, I've always found Empire Strikes Back to be pretty boring. After the battle in the snow it just feels like the rest of the movie takes forever to happen.

While I still think the original 3 are the better movies... looking at them a little more objectively they aren't really great movies. There is nothing about them in particular that sets them apart from anything else. That's just my opinion. I still like the movies I just don't think that they are particularly special. Pretty good under the budgets they had early on and such but still.... if you know anything about how they got a lot of the stuff done that they did it was all thrown together last minute a lot of the time.

Oh, and it's a remake of sorts... I'm not really sure how they would bring Jason back for the 10th time now without getting even more ridiculous than they already have been. It still looks pretty entertaining. I think the bad guy is actually going to be a quick modern version of the villian. There is something creepy about the bad guy that simply stalks along slowly but it's hard to believe that he can be in as many places as he is in one night . I prefer the villian that gets the kill when it's there to get and wastes no time about it.

I liked The Empire Strikes Back. That one and the 6th one (can't remember the name) were my 2 favorite

I knew it as "Return of the Jedi" as well. Odd, Revenge of the Jedi seams like a stupid title. Revenge is not the path of a Jedi, but of a Sith (Hence Revenge of the Sith)

I like the Chronicles of Riddick more than Pitch Black. Not saying pitch black was bad though, riddick just seemed to have more action.

White Noise 2. People were like, "There's a SEQUEL? The first one SUCKED!" but then people watched it and loved it.

iBOCK: I feel the same way.... I had no idea there was a sequel but I also can't remember what the first one was about very well. Some guys wife dies or something and he sees her in the static on his TV. Pretty boring I think.

it is really rare to see a sequel being better than the original movie. but i think back to the future 2 is far better than the first. espcially for that sequence near the end of the movie when they put new footage over scenes from the first movie. that sequence is really,really great!

I think the Pirates movies just kept getting better.

I also think that the X-MEN movie sequels are better.

Chronicles of Riddick was indeed better than Pitch Black. I think that is the best example so far. I also think Home Alone 2 was better than the first, even though I really liked both as a kid.

Honestly, I think that the first Pirates of the Carribean movie was the best one overall. I enjoyed all three, but it just seemed like the sequels were trying too hard or had too many tangents.

I know that this is more literary than movie (though there was a cartoon version of the first) but Lord of the Rings was better than The Hobbit.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (#3) was better than Temple of Doom (#2), but I feel equal to Raiders of the Lost Ark (#1). Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was just... eh.

All Die Hard movies keep getting better and better.

Yeah, Riddick is pretty obvious. It's not hard to top Pitch Black .

First Pirates movie was by far the best. The other 2 just didn't make a whole lot of sense. Too much mystical junk for a pirate movie.

Rasen: I agree that the X-Men 2 was good but 3 left me feeling quite dissapointed. Hopefully the origin movies will be better.

Delmont: wow, you just dated yourself with that post. I have to say that Back to the Future 1 and 2 were good. The third was strange.... but 1 and 2 were awesome. The hover board~!!!!! I mean what kid in the 80's didn't want a hover board?

also, did anyone mention the lord of the rings movies? I thought they got progressively better (1<2<3)

I mentioned them together as being better than The Hobbit (animated and literary). I really take them as one story together, in three parts. Honestly though, while I agree with you for the most part I think that Two Towers was the best overall movie-wise... of course that is probably because you are reaching the biggest scenes in the book short of Mt. Doom during that point.
