So, basically my cooling fan stopped working in my laptop and I had to take apart the whole thing, which took forever, since I've never done this with a laptop before.

Anyways, I unplugged the cooling fan and plugged it back in and it worked like new... thank god. I thought I was going to have to go without my laptop for a long time. It did give an error when I first started it up. Something like CMO CHECKSUM INVALID, but it hasn't given me that error since then. Oh well.

Anyone else taken apart their laptop? It's a real pain.

I for one have not disassembled a laptop. It doesn't sound too hard, if you know what you are doing. Heck, I know a tech college class that requires you to take apart your computer and reassemble it.

I have two disassembled laptops behind me. One I disassembled when the back light on the screen went out. I took it apart thinking I would replace the screen, but it was cost prohibitive. That is to say, I found a better laptop that was cheaper anyway. The second one I used until the hard drive went out. Unfortunately it was pretty old and used an IDE hard drive. It would have cost more than I bought the laptop for to change the drive, so I just went out and got one of those EEE PCs. It has not been disassembled yet.

Oh, and by the way, the first one still works if I use an external VGA monitor. For a long while I used it as a web server, but now it doesn't do much of anything.

I've actually been meaning to take mine apart or get repaired for a while now... random bouts of the laptop heating up and not being able to rest it on my knee lest I burn a hole haha.
Not that it's much of a problem, I use it on the desk 90% of the time so I can procrastinate on it a while longer.

I've disassembled 2 laptops in my lifetime and I want to disassemble this tin can. The first was a laptop from late 90s that wasn't working. The second was one from 2003 that was extremely slow. If I got an upgrade part or a new processor it would run like a champ.

Bloxon13 : I used to have an old laptop from the 90's. It ran Windows 98, I think. Too bad the display and the sound were going bad, I loved playing around with Windows 98. This was way before I knew how to take apart computers, so I couldn't fix it and my mom gave it away.

I wish I still had it, now.
