I think it would be pretty cool if Microsoft came out with an Xbox Live Platinum Membership. It could be a lot like PlayStation plus membership just not as expensive being as you already have to pay for xbox live gold. You would be able to get a couple of free games a month plus discounts on other games including on demand games. Does anyone else think this is a good idea? 

You would be better off not wasting your money on anything Microsoft does with their XBox. They produce inferior systems in every way compared to both Sony and  Nintendo. The only good idea there is left for them in regards to the XBox is to cease production, trash any ideas for a Next Gen console, and focus entirely on making Windows 8 the best OS they've released since '98.

This is, of course,  just my opinion. I know there are plenty of XBox fan-boys out there that will be enraged by this sentiment.

I don't really see the need to spend money on a membership more than I already have to in the first place. Hell it irritates me that I have to spend money on Xbox live period.

As far as inferior systems go, I wouldn't quite say that. They have a platform that many of the top developers make games for. If you have 3rd party support you have good games. Period. It's not like the old days where Sega had some games and Nintendo had different ones. Nowadays each console pretty much has the same games aside from a handful every year. Exclusives just aren't that common anymore.

With how profitable the consoles have been they would have to be stupid to cease production. I have no favorites here but I do call people out for making statements like that that are pretty much unfounded. Your hatred of them is basically the same thing as fanboyism. You hate them no matter what positives they do just because you think you are supposed to .

I have to say, considering the OP's idea of getting free games, what  are the value of these games? If they're going to be mainstream titles (£40+) then the membership is going to be something in the range of a thousand pounds or more per year for MS to make any money whatsoever on the deal. At that price, you could buy a couple of brand new Xbox 360's or even a couple mid-range iPad 2's. For that kind of money, I could even buy a car. To be honest, unless the games were £5 indie games or something not too dissimilar, then I may be persuaded depending on the cost. It really depends on the features you would get for the money.

If you could elaborate on the specifications of your proposed idea, perhaps I could give a more through answer.

I can barley afford the membership now. If the add a new form of membership it will probably cost you twice as much a year and I don't know about you but I'm not about to pay120$ to play games a year

I don't really like the idea, myself. I think the Playstation Plus idea was rather lame, and never bothered with it. Yeah, you get deals and free games. But they're basically random and it doesn't save me enough money to care. Plus once you cancel the membership, those free games are gone.

As for the Xbox being inferior to both Nintendo and Sony's consoles, I don't think it was that far behind either (I actually liked it better than the Wii). To argue that there's no way Microsoft's next gen console will be better than the others' is a tad ridiculous.

I also think that Microsoft has had quite a few good ideas when it comes to gaming. I'm a big fan of achievements, and I love the indie game market that they've created (though it could use a bit of work), for example. Perhaps only a fanboy would be enraged by the claim that Microsoft shouldn't make a next-gen console. But I'd argue that any reasonable person that is a fan of gaming and innovation would hope that they do.

I don't think Xbox live should cost any money. If you want to go online with friends and play games & chat, which is what you'll need th Xbox live for, I think Microsoft should've at least made that part free ! :/ (correct me if I'm wrong you guys since I haven't played the 360 for months XD) and in terms a platinum, I don't think that's such a good idea. Microsoft is already sapping Xbox live bronze, silver, and gold members' money every month. There is no need for a higher, more pricey Xbox live option. Like a said before, I would like to see a free option so you can at least go online with out paying $50 for a 12 month gold account. O.o
