It will not listen to you because this game is suppose to be very close to the anime and in the anime charmeleon and charizard didn't listen to ash so this game will do the same thing.

Yeah, the question appears to be answered. Charmeleon disobeyed Ash in the original Anime, same applies in this game. My advice, get a different Fire type POkemon.
