Aura, what are you doing?

Making a journal-like blog to track my progress on increasing the amount of exercising I do as well as reducing the amount of time I spend playing games, browsing the Internet, things of that sort.

And you are gonna go all-out on this first post --not to mention typing out the weirdest conversation you are having with yourself-- without your previous recordings, why?

...

Stop what you are doing, and go get your logs.

Either this will get me motivated, or I am merely taking a step closer to Albert Einstein's definition of insanity. Since I log on to Vizzed pretty much everyday I might as well do something productive, right? I started taking a P.E. class two weeks ago, and I want something to help motivate me. In this blog, I will log my time spent on exercises as well as electronics. Keep in mind that the first few posts will not be the most accurate, but I will strive to remain honest about them. Individual posts will be more detailed containing thoughts and notes as well as any questions I may have. Your feedback and encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Let's get started. This past week I attempted to start logging the amount of time I spent on my laptop for personal amusement as well as any exercising I did. I should note that the stats for the past week are not like a typical week for me, nor are they accurate. However, I still see this as something for me to put into perspective.

6/23/12
Exercise -- Walked 5,141 steps --later assumed to be 2.6 miles-- started at 10:32 AM, ended at 11:15 AM.

6/24/12
(I started recording time on electrons here) Electronics -- 2 hours 15 minutes.

6/25/12
Electronics -- 6 hours.

6/26/12
Electronics -- 5 hours 40 minutes (guesstimated).

6/27/12
Electronics -- 4 hours 30 minutes (guesstimated).

Exercised -- Walked 2.65 miles from 8:18 PM to 9:05 PM.

6/28/12
Electronics -- On and off between 9:30 AM and 1 PM.

6/30/12
Electronics -- Goofed off more than anything else.
Exercises -- Lifted and moved wood logs around for 2 hours 30 minutes. (The work took place before anything else early in the morning.)

Yep. I cannot remember how much time I spent playing on the computer. Lesson for now, log the stats each day. Also, I will give better details on my goals tomorrow.

P.S. I REGRET EVERYTHING.

7/1/12
Electronics -- 5 hours 40 minutes.

7/2/10
Electronics -- 7 hours 30 minutes.
Exercise -- Kickball 30 minutes. Walking 40 minutes.

7/3/12
Electronics -- Um, possibly 9 hours 30 minutes.
Exercise -- 30 minutes.

7/5/12
Unknown.

7/15/12
7 hours.
Walked 2.88 miles in 1 hour. Lifted and moved logs for no more than 30 minutes.

7/16/12
5 hours.

7/17/12
7 hours.

Lol. YOU WORK OUT!!! XD. Anyway, good for you. I actually need to start keeping track of how much time I spend exercising, and how much time I spend on the computer.

At least you know what you do. Mine is probably 15% exercise, 55% online, 30% sleeping... each week. I need to work out more. But congrats on your mono-log and working out.

I work out! Nice job on making this. I usually exercise for 30%, sleep for 20% and online for 50%. Yeah, I might get fat

Hey that's awesome! It feels great to get a good amount of exercise in, but it looks like you're just walking around, and you have trouble because it's boring. If that's the case, you should try to take up a sport that you enjoy. If you have the ability, I'd suggest swimming. Even just two laps in an olympic size pool is a pretty good full-body work out. Good luck with your program! (Also look up videos for Cross-fit, it's awesome!)

starwars293 : If you really exercised for 30% of EACH DAY (or even of each week) you'd have to really eat horribly to get fat. That's a ton of working out, man, and if you're really doing it, kudos!

LOL - I can relate. I um used to live at this pad which had all of my weight sets in there, then I moved and all my weights are in storage except a few barbells.

I've been meaning to join the gym down the street since I miss lifting weights like I used to but I've been too busy with work on top of martial arts.

Sometime soon, I shall start at that gym! lol

Lazlo Falconi : Yeah, however, I can't do them right now. I got some injuries after I fell off my bike. I had my helmet on though. I got some cuts, little bit of bleeding and some bruises. Until they're healed, I can't exercise or do any activities for an hour.

AuraBlaze : That's awesome. I wish I had more time to exercise. I feel like I have so little freetime that whenever it comes up, I just jump on the computer and relax. Good for you!

starwars293 : You got cuts and bruises from falling off a bike that keep you from working out? And they'll heal in an hour and you can't do any exercise til then? Wat. Did your doctor see your injuries immediately after you fell and tell you weren't allowed to do any exercising til an hour after you left the office?

Anyway, unless the cuts and bruises on your organs, you're probably good for exercising (maybe light exercising if you're really that banged up...). I mean, pregnant people exercise, people with broken limbs exercise, etc. I think you'll be okay if you really want to do something active.

Good for you, Aura...

I think I should do the same, I spend a good time of my days by just Sitting and watching TV, eating various things and browsing web all the afternoons.

I only exercise two days per week.

However, Sometimes I spend time by walking and/or Running at my backyard like a Jailed animal... So, I Don't know in percentages how much is all that...

Eddy88 : From what I heard. you need at least 60 minutes of exercise everyday or 60 minutes of doing activities. I usually bike around the park for 60 minutes with my friend everyday. We decided that we would go biking everyday, except Friday, after school was out so we can hang out.

First thing's first. Have some copy. This is an introduction for my behavior change, as well as the goal, resources, barriers, and the current plan of action.

Introduction

Up to this point, I have been unsuccessful at managing my time or prioritizing my work. In addition, I am moderately addicted to electronics. I hope to break this addiction for the benefits of being active as well as for personal independence.

Goal
Limit free-time spent on electronics to two hours per day by the start of the Fall Semester.

Resources
P.E. class, public blog.
Barriers
Lack of motivation, low self-esteem from previous attempts.

The Plan
I have started a public blog in order to motivate (obligate) myself and to seek encouragement and advise from friends when possible. P.E. class should be the start of a structured workout, and should also provide continuous information about the benefits of being active.

A mixed bag for me today. I did not complete much of the work I originally hoped to do but I did manage to get some laundry, and with it I had to make multiple trips from one end of the house to the other. Not much in comparison to what I could have done, but I feel good I did something in the first place. Also, I should know better than to think I can do some of my noisier house chores on Sunday; I do not feel like disturbing my dad's nap in the afternoon.

Electronics: 5 hours 40 minutes.

Gotta stay positive. At least I know I should do my house chores on Saturday --unless circumstances prevent that.

Bad case of Time Warp the last two nights. Did not turn my computer off until 2:00 or later. That really jacked up the number of hours I spent on electronics. Also, I want to get into the habit of showering at night instead of the next morning. That is another change I hope to make in my "routine."

Monday I played kickball in P.E. class; it left me more tired than I first expected. I shaved 5 minutes off my walking route by jogging --though it felt like running-- a portion of it. Hopefully I can either shorten the time more or extend the distance. Oh, and I happened to find $6 lying on the road that day. Exercising pays off in more ways than one!

My upper legs were a little sore from yesterday so I tried to change things up in order to avoid big impact. I was not pedaling all the time I went biking. My legs hurt went I attempted uphill climbs, but I am proud of what I did --or rather what I did not do, and that is getting off my bike to walk it.

7/2/10
Electronics -- 7 hours 30 minutes.
Exercise -- Kickball 30 minutes. Walking 40 minutes.

7/3/12
Electronics -- Um, possibly 9 hours 30 minutes.
Exercise -- 30 minutes.

... Well... is it, uh, interesting to reflect on these things.

AuraBlaze : My legs also hurt, but only when I have to run 800m. It was hard to do, but I still managed to pull it off. You pretty much have to have strong legs in order to do endurance. I did do that, even though I didn't have strong legs.

Still relapsing into my old habits, but I guess it is normal when you are trying to change your own lifestyle. I failed to track the amount of time I was on my laptop, but I know it was pretty steep. I better get outside and just go for another walk when I get the chance.

Stats for 7/5/12 are unknown.

Nice to see you are trying to take charge of this....

I should really keep track of this kind of thing myself, it might help me realize how much time actually spend on Vizzed (or online in general)

Hey this is very impressive Aura, I like how you are keeping track of things like this. I think I should spend more time exercising than sitting around like I do. I think I'll start walking more than ususal.

I did not realize until this morning that I cannot double post. Gotta have at least one person respond after me every time. Anyway, this house is not my friend. Doing homework here is very difficult to focus on. On a brighter note for today, I took sometime this morning to try to calculate my VO[sub]2[sub] max. If anyone is wondering what this is, Wikipedia it. Hopefully I will do this again in a couple weeks to see if I have made any improvements, though it could take up to six weeks for anything noticeable to happen.

Well I guess I should also mention something else that could greatly help me. My parents got a swimming pool! Seriously, I never thought this would happen. I am still in disbelief. I gotta put it to use this weekend. It is an above-ground pool, 12 ft. in diameter, 4 ft deep on the edges, and 52 in. deep in the middle.

Trying to track my time is still sketchy. Since the post I tried to make two day ago did not stay, I have lost the hours I logged there. Yesterday I'd say I was on for 7 hours. Today... I have no flippin clue. At least I did some walking for about half an hour. Now if I can only increase my frequency and start doing some strength training.

Wow... A swimming pool... Cool!

How things went up with it and with your training?
