For all the people that said McAfee wasn't on the list... it is near the bottom.

I use AVG Free 8.0. The new laptop came with Norton 360 but it was just too troublesome and everyone I know that has Norton has problems with it. I had McAfee corporate on my old laptop but it was annoying to deal with. All the people I know that use AVG free love it and it has never given them any problems, and I love how simple it is to use.

Oh I know that, but saying "Formating" or "Reinstalling OS" is more technically correct.

But I'm just a nitpicker when it comes to this.

Erm.. Formatting your system every time you get a virus?
Thats... overly tedious.

Let's say you accidentally misclicked a link and it lead you to some site with a virus that automatically installs itself due to you now having a on-access Anti Virus scanner.

Whoops, reformat time.

It'd be much simpler to just get one of the free good Anti-Viruses and never have to format again, until something REALLY screws up.

Besides, without a AV, how can you be SURE you don't have a Virus on your computer?

Common sense, I used it for 5 years, when I then checked I had maybe 2 non harmful viruses.

Of course, you can also imagine that your computers fine, when it's in fact infested with s***. Double edged sword.

ESET smart security, because its small, efficient and highly recommended.

I think it might be considered nod32 but not sure... It says its the next generation of nod32 technology, but I don't know as much about anti virus as I probably should; the person who recommended it knows a lot about compys, and he uses this one. That right there is good enough for me.

AVG free is crap. Not only does it provide BASIC protection against viruses, you can't uninstall without some amazing knowledge or Perfect Uninstaller(which costs money). Seriously, until I freaked up my computer and got Windows off of it(lol), I had AVG installed. All it would do is create backup files of itself then uninstall so,in the end, nothing changed.

Seriously, getting AVG Free off is a pain in the butt. I use Avast Pro because it has a ginormous database of viruses. Of course, this could be a serious pain if you have a small HDD like my bros 60gig laptop...

I use avast pro.
I think it's the best anti-virus I've ever had. Since I had it, I never had a virus!
In the past I used to use norton, my laptop became so slow because of it , and that's why I deleted and got avast.

I use Norton, not by choice, but because my father paid for 3 computers in the house, and this is the third computer. If you're doing stuff to actively get viruses, you're going to get them one day. Anti-virus will protect you, but they can be a pain sometimes trying to remove them. I don't really care about anti-virus, I don't download anything.
