I never could understand the need for cutting one's self; I do not like pain. I want to avoid pain.

I did have a former best friend* whom used to mutilate herself. I actually think her reasoning was for attention, to be honest, because it just was the type of person she was. She enjoyed standing out, being a poser Goth girl with the white make up and dressed all in black. Whenever I voiced concern for her cutting, she said it just seemed like fun and nice to have control over her body. I believe she may have been hiding something that happened to her in her past, but it was hard also to tell when she was lying. I just know she would cut up her arm some, sometimes burning it with a cigarette and marveling at the wounds left behind. I do believe she may have been troubled, but for what reason I do not know.

*She is only a former best friend because we simply no longer hang out; she moved out of state and we just never kept in touch. Nothing bad happened between us.
