You put two Pokemon into a daycare together and then talk to the old man outside and he will say something that tells you if they like each other or not. Btw ditto can breed with any Pokemon besides legendaries.

I breed them for certain moves Like a pichu wanting to learn Volt tackle or a pickachu that knows surf, Or if I'm bored i breed the starters of each generation and send them to a different console so i can start a new game with a stacked team.

What I usually do is I look up what Pokémon can breed with the female of the one I want to breed and then after breeding it with like 3 or 4 different Pokémon and getting 3 or 4 eggs I wait for them all to hatch and then I look at the stats and move sets and I keep the one with the most helpful stats and best move set and release the rest or in the ds games if I'm breeding starters ill just put them up for trade on the gts and sometimes get some good stuff
