Congrats on yours, though! I remember I got lucky with mine, someone traded a Wii in while I was working at GameStop. 
I'm out of date on the Wii games, unfortunately. My mind is still thrusting out Twilight Princess and WarioWare Smooth moves and such. The newest Wii game I bought was Dragon Quest Swords. The issue was that Nintendo was never making nearly enough to meet people's demands. I don't know that they've righted that, though you would definitely hope they would have by now.

Hrm, I was never able to get it to work with an ethernet cable but wireless was fine for me. Just check your connections and make sure you put the information in correctly?
It's been far too long since I connected my to an internet connection for me to be of much use. I'd follow ziggy's advice of checking around for solutions beyond here (though perhaps someone here can indeed help, I don't know).
