Recently the popularity of Records have boomed in the last few years. More and more artists are getting their music pressed on vinyl. What is your opinion of the sound quality?
I personally think it has a more richer sound compared to CDs and other audio formats.

I like the old records, in all honesty, digital and vinyl both have a balance, but vinyl's my preference.
What do I think of the sound quality...
Well, it has totally different vibes from a digital version, it has more organic sound, I guess...
And I enjoy it a whole lot more then a CD.

Edit
Clayton 2 : Yeah, that's the first thing I was told about records, they're heavy, the good ones at least.
I am also with what Belial said, I don't just listen to the old records for the quality either, its mainly because of the actual music... So many great records out there...

On3On : That's pretty much my opinion. Another variable is the thickness and quality of the record. I always try to buy heavy vinyl because the grooves are deeper giving it better sound.

I absolutely love vinyls. Before moving overseas (couldn't exactly move my turntable with me ), I would listen to them regularly. Not for the sound quality, because most of the stuff I listened to was old, classic rock. It's amazing how cheap used vinyls are. I did have some A Perfect Circle and some Mars Volta though.

As for sound quality… I definitely did not listen to them for that reason alone. It is not as good as modern, digitally recorded music (what can I say, advanced technology *shrugs*), but I do really enjoy the nostalgia of putting a record on to listen.

I don't mind vinyl records - in fact I own many - but I think a lot of people ignore the fact that the equipment you play your music on is just as (if not more) important as the original source.

That being said, I buy a lot of vinyl from Goodwill and other thrift stores because it's cheap and you can often find hidden gems you would have never found online or in a CD shop.

I think they are cool to collect but other than that they are pretty much outdated and useless unless you have something to listen to them on. If you have a favorite band then it is always cool to have their Vinyl's.

Vinyl is better? I've not heard a vinyl since I was a kid.

Hmm, you learn something everyday I guess.

I personally prefer vinyl records for their rich, uncompressed sound.

It's interesting when you listen to the vinyl and CD versions of albums side by side. Usually, the mixes are varied because of the difference in frequency between the formats. For instance, I love Frank Zappa's Hot Rats, and some songs are better on CD, some better on vinyl. So it depends on the album, although I do most of my listening on an iPod just because of the ease of access.

I think vinyl's are way better than CD's I love my vinyl's although I don't have many I am working on collecting some more, I would never trade my vinyl's for any amount of CD's I love the way they crackle and sound so original, it is truly amazing I think.

Technically, digital beats analog when it comes to sound quality. However, the appeal of vinyl has more to do with nostalgia and the things that CDs can't replicate. Every record is unique. Each one gets its own scratches and its own clicks and pops and so forth. CDs are all the same (unless you scratch it, then it's just garbage or a glitch music palette).

I actually own some vinyl and it's nice to own some. However, I almost never listen to them but when I do, it's definitely an experience. However, CDs are far more convenient for me since I enjoy downloading music to my computer and listening to stuff on my iPod and phone so I won't be going for records any time soon.

Vinyl records have that weird appeal of sound old-timey which is kinda neat I guess... but digital music is going to be of higher quality. If you have a good enough sound system and proper equalizer settings, you can get a sound that's plenty rich. It won't sound old-timey... but it's not supposed to.

Though I don't doubt that there's audio software that can put a vinyl-like effect onto digital music for playing on your computer.

I never had the pleasure to own a vinyl record myself, but I find myself more and more tempted to buy some and play them on my parents' record player. I have heard music on vinyl and had it compared to same music on CD and it seems to me that the music seems to have a certain charming sound on the vinyl that the CD version doesn't have. Personally I'd buy original vinyl records and luckily I know just where to buy them.
